Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis participated today in the 10th EU-Egypt Association Council which took place in Brussels.

Speaking at the Association Council, in which, in addition to the foreign ministers of the EU member states, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and the Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varkheli took part, Mr Gerapetritis underlined the importance the upgrading of Egypt’s institutional relations with the Union in strategies.

The foreign minister described Egypt as a pillar of stability for the entire region, especially during the current fragile geopolitical situation. Mr. Gerapetritis praised the constructive and moderate role of Cairo in the context of the crisis in the Middle East but also in relation to wider regional developments.

It is recalled that the Greek foreign minister went to Cairo last week for a working visit, while yesterday he welcomed his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Soukry, to the working breakfast of the foreign ministers of the EU countries.
