SYRIZA is busy with a lot at the moment. The main issue is the ongoing poll decline. The new wave of four polls that saw the light of day last week (Metron Analysis, GPO, MRB, Marc) leaves no room for complacency.

The episode with Pavlos Polakis and the disingenuous characterizations he used against Kathimerini’s cartoonist, Ilias Makris, once again took the political conversation out of the spotlight. This “murmuring” in view of the pre-conference dialogue, which has already begun, does not help. There are major issues on which a constructive debate could be opened in the official opposition at this time.

A possible shift of SYRIZA towards the center-left seems to excite many Koumoundourou voters with the proposal of Kostas Zachariadis, Yiannis Ragousis and Thanasis Theocharopoulos to move to the S&D after the European elections gaining ground.

In the MRB poll, on behalf of OPEN, it is characteristic that among those who supported the party this summer, 62% answered that SYRIZA should move to the center-left, while exactly half, 30.1%, wants left direction.

A percentage of 7.9% choose not to answer. In the total sample of the poll, 44.6% answered that Koumoundourou should move to the center-left and 21.3% to the left. Based on these data, the three members of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA note that the turn they propose is not just a proposal. It is a necessity and a request of the social and party base of SYRIZA. “Our alignment with this reality is an imperative task, especially for a party of members,” they emphasize.

In the recent Central Committee, the proposal to hold an internal referendum on the exit of the party from the Eurogroup of the Left caused many discussions. Stefanos Kasselakis appeared open to such a conversation, although he supports staying at the “roots”. Everything shows that at the base there is a large current in favor of this particular point of view. And it is expected that the fermentations in the next period will be continuous, as everything shows that the final decisions will be taken at the Congress.
