In a statement, the New Left criticizes the government’s announcement on the F-35 purchase, saying: “The administration is celebrating because the United States has achieved another round in the military arms spiral between Greece and Turkey, securing tens of billions in their war industries. The purchase of the F-35 will be financed by the Greek taxpayer at the expense of investments in the country’s education, health and infrastructure».

He criticizes the prime minister, claiming:Mr. Mitsotakis keeps it quiet and boasts that he succeeded in giving us surpluses of the American armed forces as a result of his complete alignment with Washington’s policies. He is also silent on how the Americans will sell F-16s to Turkey, despite confirmations and celebrations to the contrary».

In closing, he emphasizes that “Greece needs a strong defense, but not an endless and costly arms race with its neighbor, which mortgages the country’s future. That is why it is necessary for the Greek-Turkish dialogue to proceed immediately, with the aim of solving the problems between the two countries with an emphasis on diplomacy and the goal of peaceful coexistence. We call on the government to follow this path unequivocally and with determination. The pompous advertising of the purchase of expensive weapons is moving in the opposite direction».

According to information, the New Left will request the immediate convening of the Committee, where the Minister of Defense, Mr. Dendias, will give a thorough update on the Blinken letter and the armament program it foresees.
