Accusative that the Thessaloniki Metro will be operational in November 2024, appeared o Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Christos Staikouras speaking on the Thessaloniki radio station Status 107.7 and on Dimitris Venieris’ show. This is emphatically clarified by the contracting company and the leadership of the Ministry of Transport, he noted.

Mr. Staikouras explained that the Metro operation could not start first and then the work on the elevated highway, as the Fly Over was contracted from 2022 and had to start construction. At the same time, he pointed out that one project has nothing to do with the other – also from a geographical location.

“Fly Over is indeed a difficult exercise, we knew from the beginning that it would burden the everyday lives of citizens. This particular exercise had a dynamic. Other ministries and agencies of the city also contribute. In cooperation with the Ministry of Citizen Protection, YMATH, the Region, we are trying to see what other interventions can be done,” the minister emphasized, among other things, recalling the strengthening of the OASTH as there are now around 300 city buses on the streets of Thessaloniki in compared to 250 1.5 months ago.

“Before the suffering I recognize, there is a suspicion – if the citizen, given that he understands the importance, is convinced, in the next period we will be fine. We are trying to keep to the time,” said Christos Staikouras, emphasizing that the project will be completed within the next 3.5 years.
