A. Loverdos added that “his final decision with all the relevant details is a product of preparation and he is not yet ready to announce it”.
The reasons that led him to found a new party were explained by Andreas Loverdos to ERT.
The former minister, speaking to Giorgos Kouvaras and on the ERTnews show “To the Center”, revealed that he will establish a new party, which he will announce at the end of February and will be a candidate for the European Parliament.
“I am a politician in action. Yes, I will establish a party. In the European elections I will be a candidate” said Andreas Loverdos to a journalist’s question.
A. Loverdos added that “his final decision with all the relevant details is a product of preparation and he is not yet ready to announce it”. “I still have a way to go. Road of preparation” were his exact words.
At another point in the interview, Mr. Loverdos argued that he is participating in the European elections in order to fill the void that exists in the political scene. “The reason this party is being founded arises from the vacuum that exists at the moment and it is as follows: a prime minister whose suitability for this office reaches 42% while all others get less than 7%” he said, underlining that ” so far as the opposition parties are concerned, they are very much alike.” “Yes to the good, no to the omissions and mistakes. The opposition of the black man does not pass. Just as populism does not pass. I will say what society wants and needs. When you share something right that the government is doing, you win in common sense. Anyone who loses this weapon and is in the opposition cannot be heard today. I have no anxiety not to identify with anyone because I have my opinions” said Mr. Loverdos concluding that “it is not possible for every patriotic and reasonable request of society to be given to the fascists or the extreme right. I’m with common sense. A patriotic reasonable person does not let the demands of society be reaped by the extremists.”
Regarding squatting in universities, Andreas Loverdos argued that “squatting is not a right”. As he characteristically said, “you have no right to occupy a public building, obstruct its operation or destroy it. The government has completely failed with the university police. The measure failed and the government must face its responsibilities. Society demands this.”
A. Loverdos emphasized the need for an evaluation, accusing the government that while it has been announcing it for five years now, it has not done anything substantial to date, with the tragic accident in Tempe as a prime example. “The fatal station master was never evaluated…”.
Once again, when asked about the establishment of non-state non-profit universities, Andreas Loverdos repeated that he agrees without any asterisks since he had supported this in the constitutional review in 2019 and 2020 in the Parliament. “I don’t put any asterisk as long as they are truly non-state and non-profit, but also with the marking to protect mainly the Acritian universities” he pointed out, placing particular emphasis on the Democritus University of Thrace.
Finally, when asked by G. Kouvaras about the armaments, Andreas Loverdos argued that “we were strengthened much more than Turkey and that Turkey comes out completely lost. Greece is leading and it is the first time that it is not afraid”.
