Economou: Tragic murder of expatriates in Ukraine is a tragic event – Dendia talks with his Ukrainian counterpart

In her incident double homicide of the two Greek expatriates in Ukraine was mentioned by the government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou, describing the “tragic event”.

He stressed, while briefing the political authors, that Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will hold talks with his Ukrainian counterpart and wished condolences to the families of the dead and a speedy recovery to the injured.

Referring in general to situation in Ukraine The government spokesman noted: “We are closely monitoring the crisis in Ukraine. In full coordination with our European partners, we will do what is necessary to defend the interests of the country and its people, hoping to have a peaceful settlement of the disputes there. In the Ukraine crisis, Greece is in line with its partners, on the other hand we keep the communication channels open. “We always talk to all sides.”

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying: “We express our deepest sorrow for the sudden death of two expatriates and the serious injury of two others in the village of Granitna, which is close to the contact line in eastern Ukraine.”

We also express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery of the injured. According to the available evidence, the perpetrators of the double murder are three soldiers of the Ukrainian army, who got involved with the above expatriates for an insignificant reason.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, has requested to speak by telephone with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, in order to emphasize, once again, the need to protect the Greek Community in Ukraine.”
