Regarding the requests of the farmers, the government representative stated that the government has given very convincing answers to those that have budgetary costs
“The Prime Minister’s visit to Janeo it finally shows that we are turning the page. It is a project of approximately 5 million euros, plus VAT, which mainly aims at the renovation of bathrooms, sanitary facilities, but also the renovation and creation of new Units. This is very vital for the Hospital. It is not something for which a study has simply been approved, a model that the Prime Minister went to see today. It is a work in progress. And it is a very important project that citizens feel in their daily lives”, said Pavlos Marinakis in an interview with ERT.
The government representative noted that for the renovations of hospitals and Health Centers, the funding is from the Recovery Fund for which K. Mitsotakis played a leading role in the creation. “Such projects, beyond the obvious, which are important projects, a key sector, of critical importance, such as the Health sector, are also projects which begin to restore more and more the credibility of the political system and begin to show the citizens, that all that discrediting, over time, the space of the Left, the extremes, not only in Greece but also in Europe, speak, have value”, he added while also referring to other similar projects in the field of health.
Mr. Marinakis said that the bet of the first four years for Health was to keep the NHS standing “And I think that the NHS was kept standing”, he underlined and referred in detail to the relevant actions implemented by the government.
He also talked about the increases given to health workers and stressed that the overall issue of disposable income is the first priority of the government and has already started.
In addition, he referred, among other things, to the unified list of surgeries and noted that the government’s program is 4 years in depth and is already being implemented.
About bill of the Ministry of Education for the Public University and the non-state branches of foreign universities and the attitude of the opposition, noted that by 70%, it refers to the strengthening of the public university and to more funding, about 1 billion for public universities.
“There are no ifs and buts here. Either you are finally in favor or you are continuing a tradition of the space of the left and center-left, which makes the issue of higher education in our country a sad development”, he underlined.
He also recalled that “the government in 2019 abolished the lawlessness asylum and brought it back to its true meaning” and added: “We live in a country where the left has always invested in provocation. Don’t kid us. He invests in the accident…”.
For exams with electronics in he said that the responsible Minister of Education sent a circular with a full institutional arsenal, to ensure the examination.
“Hence the decision of the rectors’ meeting. Second priority, the passing of the bill. It is a bill that resolves a pending matter which had remained unresolved because, quite simply, logics of the ideological hegemony of the left prevailed. Priority three and equally important says open universities”, he added.
For asylum in universities and occupations he also stated that the law applies and whenever the authorities are called, they intervene. “The complete abolition of the asylum of lawlessness and its return to its true meaning, which is the free circulation of ideas, not criminals, was done in 2019 by the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Government of N.D. and applied. Of course, the rest of the distance will have to be covered. Why; What is the goal? It should not even be an issue or a subject of discussion that it has become self-evident”, he added.
“Social policy is that a young child should not have to go to Cyprus or anywhere else, but to be able to study at a non-state university in his country. Social policy is to ensure him that his university will not be closed”, he added, among other things.
“It is hypocritical for Mr. Kasselakis to be against non-state universities. A man whose very life, and quite rightly, has shown that he is not against non-state universities. And, unfortunately, Mr. Kasselakis is not the first from SYRIZA who wants anyone who can go to study abroad, in a non-state university – if he wants to – because he has more money to go abroad, but, the Greek student to he cannot do this”, he continued while emphasizing that the criteria for establishing non-state universities in our country will be the strictest of any other country in Europe.
Mr. Marinakis stated that the goal of the bill is to be voted by the end of February, while regarding the revision of article 16 he noted that it will be in the proposals of the government.
For demands of farmers the government representative stated that the government has given very convincing answers to those that have budgetary costs.
“We, you know, did not get on tractors, but we tried to respect those who are on tractors in the fields all over Greece, the farmers, the breeders because they do a very hard and important job. And we made a series of interventions. Tax reductions for fertilizers, for animal feed, return of excise tax. And now, I think the Prime Minister’s announcements in Parliament are of great importance. Do they solve the problem? But he himself said no. But, they are announcements that are priced, they will be implemented and I think they are important for farmers”, he underlined.
“Our opponent is problems. The farmers did not come in May and June ’23 and say “well done, you solve everything for us”. They said “because we saw an effort with a measurable result, we want you to continue on this path and solve the many more problems we have”. So I tell you again, on the question of requests for increased production costs, there is a dimension here, which especially Kyriakos Mitsotakis and our Government do not ignore. We are not the ones who will mortgage the next generations in order to be liked…”, he added.
Mr. Marinakis also said that the most important problem is the farmers of Thessaly.
“There, then, what shall we do? There we will run even faster, as far as possible. And let me say something here. It is a victory for the country, which unfortunately took place in the bad conditions of “Jan”, that it now has a mechanism with a beginning, middle and end of aid. Recording, restoration and payment, at speeds that are many times higher than in previous years”, he said, while at the same time disapproving the attitude of the official opposition on the CAP issues.
“The door of the Prime Minister’s office, not only for farmers, but for professional and social groups as a whole is demonstrably open. There is no way for the Prime Minister of the country to refuse an institutional meeting with representatives of professionals and indeed of a sector which is one of the heaviest industries in our country. We are simply waiting for a certain request to be submitted, obviously, a certain meeting with a certain object,” he also stated.
For the bill for marriage of same-sex couples stated that the government is optimistic that it will be outvoted with more votes from both the majority and the opposition. “But I don’t want to get into the logic of numbers. But I will tell you something. Given the fact that there is traditionally no party discipline in votes on individual rights bills, it makes sense to have caucus members abstaining as well,” he noted. He added: “There is no question of party discipline for MPs. We have said about the members of the Council of Ministers that they vote as MPs, however, they have an increased institutional obligation because they participate in a collective body. Each MP’s vote is sacred and personal, especially when there is no party discipline. When you participate in a group, you must, in my opinion, support the initiatives, the decisions of this group”.
The government spokesman also said of the ND that it is the only party that has managed to remain a major faction throughout the 50 years since its foundation.
“Many times we have said that New Democracy is the only truly popular party. What I’m telling you also applies to what we discussed about health, education, non-state universities, and squatting. For this discussion, I think that if one sits down and sees what is ultimately progressive and what the New Democracy is finally doing, what this Government is doing now in this matter. It enables people who want to marry and are of the same sex to do so in a civil marriage and protects the rights of children. Full stop,” he said.
He stated that he personally owes a lot to the Prime Minister in addition to the positions and positions he has assigned to him and they have their value.
“But we have to keep in mind that it’s not forever. It is for as long as the citizens want to be and in this case the Prime Minister, who has the trust of the citizens and chooses us. I am especially grateful for the opportunities I have every day to participate in a very important effort. Second fact, for as long as I can remember, since I graduated, I have been working. And I’m very proud of that and it’s not something to celebrate, a lot of other people my age do,” he added, among other things.
“The European elections will take place one year after a very important reaffirmation of confidence. A year in which many, I believe, very important steps were taken and we spent difficult days, especially due to intense natural phenomena. We want to present what we have done within the country, but also outside the borders. And I mentioned before and the Recovery and Resilience Fund and a number of other initiatives. We believe that the relationship of trust between the Prime Minister, the Government, the New Democracy and the citizens is a relationship that has solid foundations. I don’t think it’s worth getting into numbers. We want the best possible result. And to elect the most worthy representatives in the European Parliament”, he said.
