This bill, as far as its political part is concerned, without SYRIZA it would not pass, without PASOK it would pass” commented the president of SYRIZA
The president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kaselakis, arrived with his husband, tyler macbeth, shortly after one in the morning in Gazi, where he attended the party to support the same-sex marriage bill.
As soon as he arrived outside the Sodade club, Mr Kasselakis told reporters: “I know how to speak for myself. I know many will ask me what my purpose is regarding Mr. Polakis. I want you to know that this bill, as far as the political part is concerned, would not have passed without SYRIZA, without PASOK it would have passed. That’s all you need to know about who is the progressive party in the country and who is the leader who is not afraid to say things as they are and have no justification for his parliamentary nature.”
“It is a day of joy for Greece”
The president of SYRIZA continued by saying: “It is a day of joy for Greece which advances every day and becomes a modern society”.
He added that he has a request to the parents of this country. “There is a possibility that many of you have a child who belongs to the LGBTI+ community in your family. I know half the country may be divided on this issue. There are many Greeks, many Greek women who are abroad and do not return because they know that this mentality belongs to early times. We want Greece to be a modern society” added Mr. Kasselakis and continued:
“To the parents who are in Greece and who have children outside and inside, who in small societies may not feel comfortable telling their reality, embrace your children.”
And he continued: “Love your children. We are a small country. We have been through a lot of discord in our history, we cannot afford to have another such discord. And most basic of all is at the end of our lives we are all a collection of memories. What is more beautiful than having loving memories with your children who can live their lives with their uniqueness, happily in a country that excels in Europe. In Europe which we saw as equals in 1981 as part of the EU but since then we have lagged behind in the rule of law as well, as I pointed out in Brussels. One is my message today, it is to the parents of this country. Love the Greek chicks of this country as they are and let them go ahead. We can be a better country, a better society with such love.”
