“A personal obstacle that unfortunately arose at the last minute” says the Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs
With his announcement, the Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs, responsible for the issues of Greek emigration and SYRIZA-PS Member of State, Othonas Iliopoulos, analyzes the reasons why he did not attend yesterday’s vote on the marriage equality bill.
“As a State Member of SYRIZA, I declare my unequivocal support for the bill “Equality in civil marriage, amendment of the Civil Code and other provisions” which is now also a law of the state that responds to basic human rights of our fellow citizens and promotes equality in an open and human society.
My absence from yesterday’s roll-call vote is due to a personal obstacle that unfortunately arose at the last moment” says Othonas Iliopoulos and continues:
“I welcome the decision of the Hellenic Parliament as a step forward in an open and equal state. Our struggle for social rights and for a social state of law with free state education, a national health system and support for the vulnerable groups of our society is the duty of the progressive world and will continue without compromise.”
