“In the extremely difficult times we are experiencing, we fully support and encourage the action of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees,” Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis said in a statement after his meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi and the visit to the exhibition of archival material of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, entitled “The beginnings of the cooperation between Greece and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees: Joint exhibition of archival material of the first years of the joint journey (1947-1963) )”.

“We believe that we need to further strengthen the United Nations Organization in order to provide humanitarian assistance to safeguard the rights of people living in unstable conditions,” he noted.

“Unfortunately, the wider region, our region, is affected by terrible wars. Any kind of displacement of populations must be prevented, not only because it causes unrest in nations, but above all because it is required by humanitarian law.”

“The United Nations works together with states to further promote peace, stability and prosperity for all nations,” he noted.

“Thank you very much for coming here today. The signing of the Headquarters Agreement is an important day for Greece and UNHCR. We look forward to further cooperation for the benefit of all people”, he concluded.
