Tomorrow, it is expected that the Ministerial Council will present the bill to be drafted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, which will strengthen the sanctioning framework for the protection of Greek agricultural products from Hellenization
Lefteris Avgenakis mentioned the meetings he had in Brussels, in a meeting held today with the general directorates of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food and the supervised bodies
“We had submitted a framework of 19 proposals for changes, which will form the basis for a single proposal from the EPP and the countries of the EUMED Alliance 9. The moves we have made as a whole as a ministry are taking place, both at national and European level . It seems that we have positive developments on the horizon”, said the minister referring to the three meetings – meetings he had on Monday in Brussels, with the European People’s Party, the Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Alliance of the 9 countries of the European South (EUMED 9) .
Also, regarding the legislative work of the ministry, Mr. Avgenakis referred to the register of farmers, while underlining that “The agricultural departments in the Chambers will run immediately, it seems that in the next quarter we will have about 20, after the passing of our first law ».
The timing of some of the following actions was also discussed:
- Tomorrow, it is expected that the Ministerial Council will present the draft law of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, which will strengthen the sanctioning framework for the protection of Greek agricultural products from Hellenization.
- The ELGA compensation program for the affected areas is ongoing. The commitment is that by the end of the first half of 2024, all obligations will have been paid, which will reach approximately 260 million euros.
- The process for the creation of the new regulation of ELGA is being developed, with the aim of having them completed before the end of the first half of the year.
- An Amateur Fishing Register is being created with the aim – among other things – to put an end to the underground economy.
- The checks by mixed echelons of the ministry, EFET, and ELGO DIMITRA continue at retail points and at the country’s entry gates to the milk market. Controls will be extended to honey, meat and fruit and vegetables.
