“Its statutory conference SYRIZA-PS it will have the character of re-establishing the party”, declares the president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, in an interview with Real News and adds: “The order I have received is to reorganize the party after a painful defeat and then a pre-decided split. Everything will be done with the maximum possible participation and consultation of the members, making use of all the new digital tools”.

For the next period and the path to the European elections, he notes: “SYRIZA-PS is moving forward with the changes that will allow it to organize itself better and operate more collectively and effectively in the interest of the social majority. This presupposes that all the necessary changes and adjustments in our operation are quickly made, in order to fight the European elections in the best possible way”.

He also says that in the immediate future “we will present our declaration for the European elections and we will proceed with the preparation of our European ballot paper through the primary elections.

Regarding what was announced at the recent conference, he clarifies that “I never asked for a blank mandate, I asked for trust as the newly elected president to move forward” and adds that “we will all be judged in the European elections. And we will be judged dominantly by the members and friends who anxiously expect to see a SYRIZA-PS aligned with social needs.”

Regarding Alexis Tsipras, he notes: “I respect and honor Alexis Tsipras. I wish, it is true, that he had shared his thoughts within the conference.”

For Olga Gerovasili states: “He is the vice-president of the Parliament and our leader. Her opinion and contribution are valuable for the progress of the party. I don’t see anyone as an ‘internal party opposition’.”

For the low poll performance of the party says: “SYRIZA-PS has seen a poll decline in recent months due to the fragmentation and widespread introversion that has characterized its public image. Today it presents polling stagnation. We must, we want and we can change this image in the three months remaining until the European elections”.

He states that he is pessimistic regarding the attribution of responsibility to those responsible for the “crime of Tempe” because, as he says, “the Mitsotakis regime from the first day is doing everything it can to hide evidence, cover up the investigation of the case and manipulate the Justice system”. He adds, however, that “he has personally pledged that we will do everything possible so that this state crime is not hidden. The punishment of the guilty is not only a matter of justice for the relatives of the 57 dead, for us it is a top issue for democracy in Greece”.

For the next battle around the non-state universities states: “Higher education is not a commodity, it is a good protected by the Constitution. I could not be in favor of legalizing the government’s dealings with collegiates and funds that aim to provide equivalent degrees from private ‘supermarket’ universities by the franchise method. We want public universities that are well funded, staffed and outgoing. I expect from all the forces that identify themselves as left and progressive, to reject the unconstitutional Mitsotakis bill without any fuss”
