The reaction of SYRIZA – PS to the provisions of the bill that the Ministry of Culture posted in the public consultation on the Greek song, was expressed in a statement by Kyriaki Malama, Head of the Culture Department of the party’s KO.
“The basic provisions of the bill related to what we call “Greek song” are based on an incorrect and very restrictive basis and we call on the Ministry of Culture, now that there is still time, to correct them,” he says.
The announcement continues:
“The term “Greek-language song”, which is used by the bill and which is based on a series of incentives and obligations, excludes the great majority of Greek music creators.
It excludes all Greek orchestral music, Greek rock, Greek jazz, but also radio stations that play music without lyrics, radio stations that recommend orchestral, atmospheric music, even if it comes from Greek creators. With the provisions of the bill, Hadzidaki’s orchestral music or Socrates’ pieces are not considered “Greek-language songs”.
Therefore, our proposal is for the Ministry of Culture to rework the bill focusing this time on “Greek musical works” or “musical motifs by Greek composers”, as far as film music is concerned. Only on the basis of this definition can we talk about measures to strengthen the “Greek song” and its contributors”
