The state now has in its “hands” an important tool for dealing with “Hellenization” and adulteration in honey. As he mentioned the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Stavros Keletsis, speaking earlier in the Parliament, a key condition for success in controlling and combating these phenomena is the complete digital recording of the chain of production, marketing and handling of honey and its connection with the National Electronic Register.

“We are now ready at the Ministry, thanks to the work done in previous years and which we have continued. The digital platform and the electronic register of honey producers have already been created, in combination with the individual digital beekeeping identity, the technical possibility is provided for the systematic supervision of imports and the monitoring of the honey market. So we have in our hands a functional determining tool for creating traceability mechanisms and keeping and recording the balance of honey production”. said Mr. Keletsis and informed the national delegation that the ministry is preparing a draft law on food controls, including honey.

The Deputy Minister of Rural Development had been called to answer a relevant topical question of “Niki” MP Giorgos Roudas, and the actions to solve the problems faced by Greek beekeepers.

The beekeeping sector has been included in the strategic plan of the new CAP 2023-2027, with a special program of co-financed sectoral interventions which are co-financed, 50% by the European Union and 50% by the Public Investment Program. The budget for the sectoral programs of beekeeping for the period 2023-2027 amounts to a total of 61,626,450 euros, i.e. approximately 12,325,000 euros per year.
