In administration public holiday by the decision of the secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace (ADMTH) Yiannis Savvas, the newly elected mayor of Naoussa, Nikos Koutsoyiannis.

Mr. Koutsoyiannis, last December was convicted by the Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki with a sentence of 4 months, with a three-year suspension, for breach of duty. The case concerned the lease of a refreshment stand during his previous mayoral term, in the period 2014-2019.

In his written statement, Mr. Koutsoyiannis speaks of “ex parte decision which catalyzes any notion of the rule of law coming from the darkest times this country has ever lived through.”

“By committing a flagrant violation of the existing legislation, they invented a financial loss from the rental of the municipal store “Kioski” and the secretary of Decentralized decided absolutely wrongly, exceeding the limits of his authority, that the mayor of the municipality of Heroic City of Naoussa should be put on holiday . This is unprecedented of a coup character decision, which is against the clear popular mandate” he adds.

Mr. Koutsoyiannis also states that he is not deterred by any decision, as he emphasizes. “Immediately, I will take every legal action, for the restoration of the gross injustice, my honor and respect for the popular mandate given to me in the October elections. And those responsible for this decision – a travesty, which they disseminated before it even reached my hands, will be called to justice” he says.

Within the next few days an extraordinary municipal council will be held where the majority faction will propose a deputy mayor to act as mayor.
