Until March 17 the submission of nominations to isyriza – In mid-April the internal party referendum
By Antonis Anzoletou
THE Stefanos Kasselakis will report to the Sparta camp to fulfill his military obligations on Friday. He will serve his term for 20 days with the SYRIZA president’s biggest concern being the time running until the European elections. The deadline for submitting nominations on the isyriza platform is March 17. There will be an evaluation of the candidates and a quota will be set both by region and for the participation of women. The internal party referendum is set for mid-April.
Today Stefanos Kasselakis in the technopolis of the municipality of Athens will give the stamp of the party for the economy and more specifically for the fight against punctuality. On Thursday, he will present the European program of the party in Foundation of Greater Hellenism, while in April a new big event is planned for housing. On the SYRIZA website, the positions of the party by sector will be uploaded, and in Koumoundourou they claim that everything will be ready for the European elections. The “machines” are in full swing and the emphasis is now on the program. The Executive Office is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, while new regional conferences are planned in Patras, Heraklion, Thessaloniki and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The picture is not clear Koumoundourou regarding the elections held over the weekend for the nomination of County Committees and coordinating Member Organizations. Executives talk about very little participation in the urban centers which ranged from 8%-12%. Typically in northern Athens out of 16,600 members 1,346 reportedly voted, in Ilioupoli out of 1,767 197 went to the polls and in Ilion only 101 out of 2,400. The same picture allegedly existed in Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni (out of the 640 registered, 72 voted) and in A’ Thessaloniki (out of 12,000 members, 1,110 went to the polls). Sources of Koumoundourou give a different picture. They report that in 70% of the organizations there was consensus and that is why elections were not held. They claim, in fact, that approximately those who voted in 2022 voted, with the difference that then the trends created polarization.
The distance that Stefanos Kasselakis is asked to cover is quite long, as the SYRIZA still figures in third place in the polls. The SYRIZA leadership team knows that the “shock” will be big if the geographical map changes and the party loses to PASOK for the first time since May 2012. And after the “slap” of the summer, with 17.8% , the “seismic tremors” will be enormous and the developments unpredictable.
Stefanos Kasselakis is now playing the “card” of rallying the party’s forces with the first concern being internal party calm which has not been disturbed since the congress.
