In first engagement of the frigate Hydra operating in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, in the context of its participation in European company “Shields”, he reported the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias, in his speech during his visit to the 12th Mechanized Infantry Division in Alexandroupolis.

“A few days ago, two days ago to be precise, together with the Chief of the GEETHA and the Chief of the Navy we were in the Gulf of Aden with our frigate HYDRA. We were proud to see our country’s flag on the mast of HYDRA and as you know HYDRA this morning as part of its mission was involved in preventing a drone attack on a merchant ship. We are proud of the operations of our homeland that are carried out to protect the national interest, the role of our country, but also the interests of every Greek man and every Greek woman and Greek society,” he said.

THE Greek frigate “Hydra” had her first involvement today, Wednesday, March 13 at Gulf of Aden as part of the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES operation.

Specifically, frigate HYDRA in the morning hours on Wednesday 13 March 2024 in the Gulf of Adenproviding protection to a merchant ship, fired at 2 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)in accordance with the applicable Rules of Engagement, which were then removed.

The frigate continues its mission normally.

It is reminded that the frigate “HYDRA” sailed from Salamis Naval Station on February 26after the approval of KYSEA and on March 3, 2024 it was deployed in the Red Sea region and joined the Company “SHIELDS” (EUNAVFOR ASPIDES), which is mandated to protect shipping from attacks at sea or in the air.
