“PASOK will fight for the Cyclades to remain a national jewel” emphasized Nikos Androulakis
“PASOK’s agenda has always placed the issues of ecology very high, even in times when others were indifferent. While others thought green issues were a passing fad, we were shaping policy. Today we have a duty to take a step further in the public debate. Let’s talk about climate justice, environmental inequalities, sustainability and resilience”, said the president of PASOK-Movement of Change, among other things. Nikos Androulakis in his greeting at the event of In social: Liveable Greece 2030 – National dialogue on climate change and the environment.
“It is not enough to discuss the transition to a zero-pollution economy, but we must move towards energy democracy. We want the state to be the pioneer, the coordinator and the guardian of this effort, but also for the citizen to be a participant and co-shaper at every stage, at every step” added the president of PASOK-Movement for Change.
He defined a livable Greece in four axes, in four pillars.
- “The first pillar has to do with the environment, with how we envision nature, the rural landscape, the Greek region, but also our cities and urban space.
- The second pillar concerns energy, what kind of fuel and energy we will use and where it will come from. Will it be of natural origin or not? Where will they be stored?
- The third pillar of a livable Greece is the developmental one.
- For us, the question “what kind of development do we want for our country and what activities will it be based on?” is of critical importance. But the question “whose needs will this development serve?” is also burning. which summarizes the fourth pillar,” said Mr. Androulakis.
He emphasized that “the answer is one and unequivocal: the needs of society, because today’s environmental policy must be an applied social policy” and added: “We stand with solidarity and empathy towards the policy of arrogance that avoids this level of public debate, politics that serve oligarchs and powerful interests, doing business even with this very sensitive issue for humanity.”
Nikos Androulakis made a special reference to the situation in the Cyclades which, as he said, really angers me. “We see the mayors of many islands worried about the hypertourism development model followed by the current government, about the golden visa, about issues without rules and restrictions. A model which is not sustainable neither for the islands nor for the citizens… The beauty and culture of the unique jewel of the Cyclades are at risk. And this is what I want to be the message of tonight’s event: PASOK will fight for the Cyclades to remain a national jewel”, underlined the president of PASOK-KINAL.
“This event, a few weeks before the European elections, opens a circle of discussion, not only about the environment, but also about other big issues concerning our country. We made the decision to start the discussion with this event about the environment, with society and man in the foreground. We did it because we believe that in view of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Third Hellenic Republic, as a Greek state we must finally do our brave self-criticism and face the gaps and shortcomings in the area we are discussing today. Starting from and on the occasion of the great anniversary of our Republic, we have a duty to envision Greece in the immediate and distant future as a modern, democratic, environmental and social state. This is the historical role of PASOK today. And we will serve this historic political role with passion and daily struggle in the coming weeks so that in the battle of the European elections, our faction will make a leap of victory against any form of maintenance”, concluded Nikos Androulakis. .
Former Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou also addressed a greeting, while members of the party were present, among them the secretary of K.O, Evangelia Liakoulis, Manolis Christodoulakis, responsible for KTE Environment, the parliamentary representatives D. Mantzos and Michalis Katrinis, the secretary of PASOK-KINAL, A. Spyropoulos, Kostas Laliotis and Kostas Skandalidis and several party officials.
Interventions were made by academics who study environmental issues and representatives of agencies.
