The “active policy” of Greece in the Middle East in order to ensure that the humanitarian crisis is limited, as well as the leading role of the country in the “Shields” operation, was underlined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis during his arrival at the EU General Affairs Council, on Brussels.

“Greece actively participates with a leading role in the mission in the Red Sea, so as to ensure freedom of navigation, which is absolutely necessary for the supply chain, while at the same time Greece participates in all humanitarian corridors and in the initiative of Cyprus to the sea corridor directly to Gaza” said Mr. Gerapetritis.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis noted:

“The situation in the world tends to worsen. In Ukraine, in the Middle East, in Africa, in the world there is a clear degradation of the rule of law, democracy, humanitarian values. Humanity can no longer remain inactive. All possible channels should be available so that world balance and world peace can be restored. Especially in the Middle East, Greece pursues a very active policy in order to ensure that the humanitarian crisis is limited and that there is no possible extension to other fields of hostilities. Greece actively participates with a leading role in the mission in the Red Sea, so as to ensure the freedom of navigation, which is absolutely necessary for the supply chain, while at the same time Greece participates in all the humanitarian corridors and in the Cyprus initiative for the sea lane directly to Gaza. But the reality is that the international legal order has failed to prevent or mitigate the humanitarian crisis, which is currently on a massive scale. We must all understand that a situation which so flagrantly violates the values of humanity cannot be tolerated. Tomorrow is already late.”
