“Along with the cover-up effort, the government is also implementing a plan to amnesty political figures, its own children” said Sokratis Famellos
“The crime of Tempe will concern us for a very long time, it is deeply imprinted in the social consciousness,” says in an interview in Athens 9.84 the president of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA PS, Socrates Famous. He then explains: “Society is convinced that the government is covering up the responsibilities of government officials, and I am specifically referring to the responsibilities of Karamanlis, Karagiannis for the accident and Triandopoulos for the blunder that led to the loss of convictions. Alongside the cover-up effort, the government is also implementing a plan to amnesty political figures, its own children. Something that was amply demonstrated by the statement of Mr. Voridis in the Parliament, before our proposal was even tabled, that he would reject any proposal for a preliminary committee on the responsibilities of Mr. Karamanlis. The government refused to discuss the case file of the European prosecutor who came to the Parliament and requested an investigation of the criminal responsibilities of Mr. Karamanlis to the extent of a felony, for the contract 717 for remote control in the railway”.
Asked about it if SYRIZA-P.S. will testify proposal for the establishment of a preliminary committee on the investigation of the responsibilities of the government officials for the Tempe accident he stated: “We have the following dilemma, on the one hand we have nuanced indications and strong evidence of the responsibilities of those persons who are causally connected to the crime of Tempe, but on the other hand the ND has declared in all ways that it will vote against any proposal submitted, amnesty with this way these persons. In the face of this great political and moral problem we chose to submit a different proposal. Our proposal is that all Members of Parliament together make an interpretative declaration that offenses committed by government officials by omission do not fall within the limitations set by the Constitution and can be reviewed by ordinary justice. If the ND accepted our proposal then it would restore society’s lack of trust and justice would be free to conduct its investigation, as Mr. Mitsotakis stated that for Tempi “justice will provide the solution”. Mr. Mitsotakis however, with the conclusion of the ND, he actually does the opposite of what he says and puts obstacles in the way of justice. So the main thing is that we have a plan to cover up the ND but also an amnesty plan which is even heavier.”
Turning his fire against the prime minister, he pointed out: “The prime minister’s choice to refrain from discussing the investigation into the circumstances of the largest train accident in Greece that led to the loss of fifty-seven peopleoffended society’s demand for justiceinsulted the request of the relatives but also the memory of the victims”.
For “scandal of the leakage of voters’ personal data” Mr. Famellos said “the government is exposed multiple times from the violations of the rule of law in our country. The personal data of voters was clearly tampered with in the offices of the ND party and the question is reasonable: didn’t Mr. Mitsotakis know what was going on in his party? Is it possible that Mr. Marinakis did not know while he was party secretary during the disputed period? Only Ms. Asimakopoulou got the personal data? After all, is the personal data of citizens secured? Is the postal voting process ensured? Comprehensive answers from the government and performance of political responsibilities are due immediately.”
