The atmosphere inside the meeting was already electrified when the motion was tabled

Fierce fights with highly personal characteristics, repeated interruptions of the speakers and a meeting that lasted until the early hours of the morning, composed the scene in the plenary session of the Parliament during the first day of discussion of the motion of no confidence against the government submitted by PASOK – and co-signed by SYRIZA, News Left and Freedom Sailing.
The atmosphere inside the meeting, which started late in the afternoon (19.00), was already electrified when the proposal was tabled, with Nikos Androulakis accusing the governing majority of being capable of anything in order to “keep her chair” and the Maki Voridis to raise the gauntlet and directly accuse the president of PASOK as a “trustee of specific publishing interests”, clarifying that the proposal is welcome.
Fire from the opposition – “Counterattack” by M. Voridis
Listening to the speakers of the opposition, the Minister of State intervened, stressing that “I personally felt deja vu. “I am listening again to the discussion that took place a week ago during the discussion of the conclusion of the Commission of Inquiry. The exact same arguments” and “do you want the Government to fall because you don’t like the opinion of the parliamentary majority?”, he emphasized.
Earlier, the SYRIZA rapporteur, Nikos Pappas, accused the government of “covering up is your first nature,” speaking of a cover-up, cover-up and editing of the train crash. “I saw the rapporteur in a motion of no confidence concerning the Rule of Law and among others the issue of media manipulation, Mr. Pappa… Mr. Pappa! Out of everyone, you chose Mr. Pappa. It’s a pity that Mr. Papagelopoulos has not been elected to be your second choice and to complete the set of the rule of law”, commented the Minister emphatically.
In fact, addressing PASOK’s Michalis Katrini, M. Voridis once again highlighted the PASOK and SYRIZA stance towards the motion of no confidence: “I owe you something. Good point today. In other words, you managed to get the official opposition to sign. Maybe it’s part of a nervousness with the polls that showed you second and third. I give it to you as a gesture. It is more likely that the head of the officer described the process as pointless, without content and after saying all this he came and signed.” “No matter how much you shout, Mr. Voridis, you cannot hide the truth,” said Michalis Katrinis, addressing the Minister.
The Minister of State also launched a severe attack on Zoi Konstantopoulou, who interrupted him several times during his presentation: “Listen, madam, you are the definition of slander, lies, slander, you have been tolerated by this room and the governing majority too”. “The prime minister himself has primary information and involvement and came out to apologize so that today we reach the point where he wonders where the arrest is,” retorted, among other things, the president of Plefsis Eleftherias.
What does the motion of no confidence say?
The proposal, signed by 85 MPs, refers to a “criminal and methodical attempt to cover up the case and to create a veil of protection for specific persons”. The text refers, among other things, to the recent resolution of the European Parliament on the rule of law in Greece. “This institutional and political pathology comes to be added to the long-standing deterioration of the standard of living of the citizens, with the intensifying wave of exactitude, the tolerance of obscene profit and the abandonment of the pillars of the welfare state – public education and public health system”, the sentence concludes.
The main menu of debates within the plenary session is expected today with the positions of most of the ministers, where the fan of political confrontation will be opened on other issues, apart from the train accident in Tempi. The number of registered parliamentarians (175) who will speak in the plenary, predisposes again for a marathon meeting until the early hours of Thursday, while the position of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis, is expected with particular interest. The process is expected to culminate with the roll call vote around 20.00 – 21.00 on Thursday evening.
