“I am aware of what I say and do in public life”said SYRIZA MEP candidate Nikos Faradouris, regarding his statement that caused a storm of reactions.

“I don’t feel “emptied”, I feel strengthened towards society” he answered when asked if he regretted or if he had been disturbed by the statements of his party officials.

“I haven’t understood where we disagree,” he said and continued: “when the prosecutor’s investigation promotes the truth or brings to light issues concerning scandals and crimes, aren’t political developments created?” He added that “the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has prosecutors from all the member states, who, when they clear up cases, advance their investigation and expose governments that obstruct their work”.

“Sarkozy was given a wristband by the prosecution’s investigation,” he said and added: “does it occur to you that Areios Pagos can make a mistake? That’s what we say, he could be wrong. European judges entangle and cooperate with national prosecutors. Both when they investigate scandals and illuminate aspects that are obscured, they can lead to developments and resignations of the government.”

He then pointed out that “of course the people decide” and he repeated that it is “a good idea that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office resigns from the government if it obscures scandals and crimes.”

Continuing, Mr. Farandouris, asked to clarify his statement, emphasized that “the European Public Prosecutor’s Office is an institutional body in which prosecutors from all states participate. If the investigation by either the European or the national prosecutor leads to revelations that lead to the isolation of any government, the popular verdict is the competent one”.
