The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, is visiting Boston, as part of the actions to reform the Armed Forces with the “Agenda 2030”.

The Minister of Defense met with distinguished expatriates, among them the businessman Giorgos Antoniadis, who from March 2023 is the president of the commissioners of the Athens College in the USA, Konstantinos Spiliakos, of the cyber security company EOS Systems, Pavlos Tsitsopoulos, president of Omogeneiki Businessmen’s Organization “AO”, Irini Iliaki, infectious disease specialist at Cambridge Health Alliance (niece of Sminagos K. Iliakis, who died in the line of duty), businessman Giorgos Frangioudakis, Marina Hatzopoulos, nuclear physicist and businessman Stamatis Astras.

Nikos Dendias analyzed to the participants the security challenges in the international environment and in the wider region of our country, which require the reform he promotes for the Armed Forces of the country with the “Agenda 2030” and discussed the possibility of the contribution of the Community, in innovation and technology issues.

The Minister of Defense then visited the leading American university MIT. He met with professors in the field of engineering who have contracts with the US Pentagon and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is the responsible research and development agency of the United States Department of Defense for the development of defense technologies, which they will only be used by the US military.

The distinguished MIT researcher, Michael Benjamin, informed Nikos Dendias about the amazing possibilities of autonomously moving systems in the sea and under it, with the Minister of Defense expressing interest in cooperation and possible construction of part of them in Greece.

Next stops were the Fletcher School and Harvard Kennedy School, where Mr. Dendias discussed with students the role of Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean at a time of geopolitical change.

Speaking to professors and students, the minister emphasized the need to develop a European defense arm, which will work in cooperation with NATO, as is already the case with the “Shields” operation, which is underway in the Gulf of Aden.

The Minister of Defense was accompanied in the visits and meetings by the Consul General of Greece in Boston, Simeon Tegos.

On Sunday, April 14, Nikos Dendias will be in New York, as he will be the master of ceremonies for this year’s great Greek parade on 5th Avenue, while he will also attend expatriate events.
