“The reformed KOK will have a new penalty policy, focused on road safety. We are not interested in punishing, primarily, the offenders, we are interested in the penalties being applicable, being fair and corresponding to the seriousness and dangerousness of each offense”emphasizes the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport, Christina Alexopoulou in an interview with the Athens News Agency.
For the first time, according to the new Code of Criminal Procedure, which is expected to be put up for consultation in the next period, the penalties are categorized and made more severe, depending on the seriousness of the offense (eg mobile phone, helmet, belt, etc.). “The penalties should concern the driver and not the vehicle, while taking into account the micro-mobility, which has entered our lives for good, we adjust the speed limits in the urban fabric downwards”.

“The goal of the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is the renewal of 1,300 new buses by the end of 2027, creating a new sustainable era for transport” states Deputy Minister Christina Alexopoulou. He also talks about the new Tap ‘N’ Pay digital service, which is expected to be implemented in MMMs, enabling passengers to move easily and quickly, without having to look for an issuing office but directly using their bank card as and for the “Move Electric” program, stressing that the dynamic development of the market “leads us to a completely different approach to “Move Electric 3”.
Finally, with regard to the work on Patras – Pyrgos highwaystates “the progress of the works has exceeded 38.3% … and by 2025 we will have a modern and safe highway, which will contribute both to the improvement of road safety, but also to the development of Western Greece and the whole country” .
