by

“The goal is to leave behind the ‘distortion’ of substitute teachers and it is my absolute priority to appoint teachers and train them,” said the Minister of Education. Niki Kerameoswho visited 4 Primary Schools in her city Xanthi and specifically the 17th Experimental Primary, the 6th and the 13th Primary and the 2nd Minority Primary.

As proof of its absolute priority, it mentioned the fact that last year it was planned to make 5,250 teacher appointments and eventually more than doubled to 11,700.

“I am trying to leave the status of deputies who serve for many years as deputies,” said Ms. Kerameos.

Another one priority as he pointed out, is not to waste a single hour during which the students will not be offered the most possible supplies, and explained to the teachers of the 17th Experimental Primary School of Xanthi that this was the reason why so many innovations were implemented this year.

The minister told the teachers of the Experimental, several of whom are deputies and expect to be appointed soon, that they seem to be doing their job well because after the initial hesitations now the Ministry of Education flooded by requests for operation of experimental schools and in the region of Thrace.

She stressed that during the period of her ministry, the elaboration of 166 new curricula was completed.

About robotics lesson, Ms. Kerameos said that the day before yesterday she signed the tender of 30 million euros for robotics equipment for all kindergartens, primary schools and high schools in the country. There is also a separate budget of 140 million euros for the supply of interactive whiteboards for schools.

In all the schools she visited, the minister devoted a lot of time and had in-depth discussions with students and teachers.

She warmly thanked the teachers for their work during her two years pandemicunder difficult circumstances, and listened carefully to their suggestions.

With her was the mayor of Xanthi Emmanouil Tsepelis, who in turn recorded requests, the satisfaction of which is the responsibility of the local government.

Both the teachers and the mayor pointed out that this is the first time that the Minister of Education visits schools in Xanthi and dedicates time for a substantive discussion on all the issues that exist.

The minister also listened to requests from students, who stressed how they prefer lifelong learning to distance learning and expressed their willingness to return to the normal life they lack.

The students also showed a strong interest in going on excursions, and Ms. Kerameos said that she suggested to the Committee of Experts that the school trips.

He even commented that the students “put the glasses” on the older ones in the way of applying the protection measures from the spread of the coronavirus.

At the 2nd Minority Primary School in Xanthi, which has 53 students, mainly Roma, the teachers told the minister that the biggest issue they face is the non-continuous attendance of students. They asked for help through social workers who will visit the children’s parents and Mrs. Kerameos replied that she will look into the matter.

The MP from Xanthi of the New Democracy, Spyros Tsiligiris, was also present at the visit to the 2nd Minority Primary School.
