“The elections will send a message of overturning”, said the president of the SYRIZA parliamentary group from the floor of the Parliament
The president of the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary group launched a harsh attack on the prime minister for the degradation of Justice and the rule of law, from the floor of the Parliament. Socrates Famousspeaking at the meeting on consolidating the courts and restructuring the judicial map.
Starting out, he said: “Justice is at the center of the debate. Justice in the country is in the greatest crisis, 70% of citizens question its credibility. With the bill we do not have a judicial but a divisive map, as the Regions are divided. The bill poses It creates a two-tiered judiciary. The prime minister said that Greece is the first in the number of judges. We have them more judges but fewer resources and fewer judicial officers. The bill does not solve any of the problems of the judiciary.”
Turning his fire on the prime minister, he said that “it is a shame to associate your politics with Eleftherios Venizelos. A prime minister accused by four major international organizations of violations of the rule of law and burdened by the scandal of wiretapping, leaking of personal data and of Tempes, it is a shame to appear as a great reformer”.
Returning to the bill, he said it “advocates in favor of big law firms and corporations at the expense of lawyers, and especially young people.”
He accused Kyriakos Mitsotakis of “forgetting the Tempi case and the cover-up plan” and added that “the parliamentary majority is blocking the delivery of justice, even though the relevant request came from the European Union. Instead, the government turned against the European prosecutor.”
Generalizing, he argued: “The government has lost the trust of society. Greek society cannot erase from its memory the applause for Mr. Karamanlis during the debate in the Parliament on Tempi. But the shame continues: Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a recent his interview, that if anything would change it would be the management of the communication and that there are conspiracy theories about the mess-up. He means that there is a mistake in the government’s propaganda plan.Areo Pago the investigation of four political figures, what will the government do? Are these conspiracy theories too? Is the prosecutor’s order that will come to the Parliament for rubbish?”
Mr. Famellos spoke of “arbitrary intervention in the crime scene by transporting soil” and added: “Will you allow the Parliament to investigate this or will you reject it in order to exonerate Mr. Trantopoulos?”.
Generalizing, he argued that “government choices have dealt blows to the rule of law” and cited the reports of four major organizations that talk about violations of the rule of law and individual liberties in our country.
He referred to the leak of personal data of Greeks abroad: “You are the only European party that has acknowledged that it illegally used the personal data of citizens for the purposes of vote hunting. We have a confirmed party scandal with personal data. We asked, but why Ms. Kerameos has not moved forward We have not received an answer yet. We requested that Mrs. Kerameos come to the Parliament to give answers and tell us what is happening with the citizens’ personal data.”
He argued that “the data of the postal vote are not particularly encouraging. The 50,000 registrations of Greeks abroad is not encouraging and is likely to be linked to the lack of trust of the citizens towards the ministry”.
Generalizing, he noted that “with the government’s choices, the discrediting of society grows” and referred to “Mr. Floridis’s lies about the changes in the criminal codes in relation to the administration of justice in Mati. You are doing it for partisan opportunism and for offsetting with other cases I unequivocally deny that the verdict on Mati is connected to the change of the 2019 codes on SYRIZA, while the following Floridis codes have brought back the acquisition. Mr. Mitsotakis said not to There are two measures. We agree that there are no two measures. Rena Dourou did not invoke any immunity and asked for the acceleration of the process. Let Mr. Karamanlis and Mr. Triandopoulos do the same.”
Continuing the attack on the Prime Minister, he said: “The Prime Minister said that he will come to discuss the accuracy after Easter and after the consumers have paid. Our request has been submitted since March 15. The Prime Minister has been hiding for seven weeks, and because it is hidden, we turned the request into a pre-scheduled debate in the Parliament. The prime minister said that ‘someday the prices will go down, but the salary increases will remain’. This is what we call ‘long live my May’.
In closing, Mr. Famellos said that the government’s policies are degrading the country as a whole. The citizen wants quick and transparent access to Justice. With the bill, access is limited, while with the scandals, Justice is being degraded.”
Mr. Famellos called on the judges to raise their voices, “to fight against the attempt to manipulate and silence Justice. The deterioration of the institution causes the deterioration of society and Justice”. Finally, he noted that “a democratic movement is needed and a message of overturning that will be given by the European elections”.
