Sunday, May 12, is the deadline for submitting applications for children’s camps
“Yesterday we had the joint ministerial decision of the government on how we support the former workers of LARCO, whose contracts expire tomorrow. For a case which, since the end of the 80s, has been financially problematic and deficient for Greek society and the Greek taxpayer”, he said to SKAI and the show “Morning” with Yiannis Dsounos the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Domna Michailidou.
As Ms. Michailidou pointed out, “all 850 employees of LARCO are guaranteed to find work, well-paid with 1200 euros. It’s a similar salary to what they used to get and it’s guaranteed.”
“For all ex-employees who are over 55 years old, we are creating positions through DYPA for Local Government. For those who are over 55 years old, we guarantee them at least 7 years of work with 1200 euros in municipalities and regions. Those who are under 55 years old are insured for two years, in ESY, EFKA, DYPA and in some municipalities and regions. No one is left out of the labor market, no one is left on the street,” added Ms. Michailidou, stressing that the taxpayer has been burdened with billions for the operation of this business.
Regarding the criticism they receive from the opposition, Ms. Michailidou stated: “We cannot be consumed by everything the opposition says. Unfortunately, today, we don’t hear constructive, effective criticism.”
Asked about the workers from Egypt, Ms. Michaelidou replied: “The first land workers from Egypt are coming to our country. A bilateral agreement has been made to simplify the entry of people from Egypt into our country. This starts with land workers but also includes the catering industry and the tourism industry. We have the first 2,400 of the 5,000 initially provided for by this bilateral agreement. The bilateral agreement ensures their stay in the country for nine months.”
Regarding the unemployment benefit, Ms. Michailidou argued that “it is something that you cannot cut, it is something that you can control better. It is something that we have to see if some people who are in black work receive it. We need to control them better but we can’t say we don’t want unemployment benefits”
Finally, the Minister of Labor and Social Security referred to the submission of applications for children’s camps, as tomorrow, May 12, the deadline expires in order for “100 thousand children, 6 – 16 years old to be able to go on vacation from two weeks to one month”.
