The meeting between the Greek Prime Minister and the President of Turkey is underway in Ankara.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived at Ankara around 15:30. The Greek Prime Minister was welcomed at the airport of Ankara by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Hakan Fidan.

Afterwards, Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Kyriakos Mitsotakis at presidential palace where the meeting takes place.

According to government sources, the two Foreign Ministers, Giorgos Gerapetritis and Hakan Fidan and the two diplomatic advisors, Anna Maria Boura and Akif Tsagatai Kilic, are present at the meeting between the Greek Prime Minister and the Turkish President.

Subsequently, expanded contacts will follow with the participation, among others, of the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Papadopoulou and Costas Fragogianni, responsible for political dialogue and the “positive” agenda, and Burak Aksapar, the National Security Adviser, Athanasios Dokos, the International Strategy Adviser of Planning, Aristotelia Pelonis, and the Prime Minister’s Communications Director, Kyras Kapi.

Alongsidethe presence of the commanders of the secret services of the two countriesof Ibrahim Kalin and Themistocles Demiris, at the dinner and their meeting at the time of the visit of Mr. Mitsotakis is another sample of the effort to stabilize the positive climate between the two countries.

On the “menu” of the talks of Kyriakos Mitsotakis there will be issues such as the problems of minorities, the differences in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as the possible timetable of how to resolve them, the disagreement over marine parks, the issue of the Monastery of Chora , trade, tourism and the preservation of calm waters in the Aegean.

According to government sources during today’s meeting among the two leaders are expected to sign two new agreements: the first concerns you cooperation agreement, on Disaster and Emergency Management, which puts assistance between the two countries in emergency situations on a more structured basis. The second concerns the cooperation in the field of Health and Medical Sciences.

The same sources emphasize, moreover, that the establishment of the Greek-Turkish Business Council will also be announcedwhich is recalled to have been agreed upon Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Athens last December.

At 17:15-17:45 the two leaders will make statements to the press and will be followed by the dinner, to which according to SKAI’s correspondent, Manolis Kostides, the Turkish presidency has also invited Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, a fact that is considered to show the positive approach shown by Ankara to the Prime Minister’s visit to the Turkish capital.

After the official dinner, the Greek Prime Minister will depart from Ankara.
