“While Mr. Mitsotakis is silently watching the imposition of Turkish claims in the Aegean, he is deploying for the umpteenth time the tactics of patriotism and nationalist rhetoric to save electoral leaks to the extreme right,” reports the SYRIZA in his announcement.

He adds that the prime minister “covers his candidates when they call the official opposition as “known anti-Greeks”, who are “permanently against the national interests”, just as he did in 2018, when Mr. Voridis called the SYRIZA government “a government of national weakness” “”.

“But the trick is old”, he comments, adding that “he is trying to appear as a “centrist”, while at the same time leading ministers, central officials and MEP candidates are doing the “dirty work” against SYRIZA, trying to limit the big voter leakages to far-right “charlatans”.

The official opposition party comments that “it is really sad to see a young MEP candidate, such as Ms. Maria-Oraiozili Koutsoupias, slipping into far-right positions and rhetoric, which is clearly part of the political line drawn up by the Maximos, in order to balance in two boats”.

SYRIZA states that “if the “centrist” Mr. Mitsotakis does not agree with these characterizations, he should apologize himself, instead of his candidate. Otherwise, it is confirmed that the New Democracy has once again put its heads in front of the European elections”.
