“The digital school is a revolution in Education,” said the Prime Minister from the Roots of Imathia
New Digital school (digitalschool.gov.gr) is a new, free, integrated digital portal, through which students from 1st Primary to 2nd High School will have access to short, comprehensive videos with teaching material and course content at any time (in Netflix logic).
The students of the 3rd Lyceum will be able to watch live and videotaped evening tutoring sessions for the GEL and EPAL courses being examined, communicate with the teachers in real time and participate in preparation competitions.
The pilot use of the Digital School will start from the new school year. In the first phase, videos will be available for the modern Greek language and mathematics taught in the Gymnasium classes, while soon corresponding audio-visual material will be added for all the subjects of the school curriculum, for all classes up to the 2nd Lyceum. The digital lessons for the 3rd Lyceum will start next September.
Digital lessons for children in remote areas
At the same time, through the Digital School, the needs of students who live in remote areas where the standard conditions for establishing a school are not met, such as Gavdos, will be met. In these cases, classes will be created with the physical presence of at least three teacher specialties (philologists, mathematicians, natural science or IT teachers) and for the courses that are not covered by the specialties available in the area, live digital teaching will take place, within school hours .
In this way, the free and free Digital School is a supportive tool for all students, especially for those who face objective difficulties because they live in inaccessible mountainous or island areas, at a great distance from their school or belong to vulnerable households.
Electronic access for parents to school activity
The Digital School also includes a digital application for regular communication between parents and the school (eParents). Initially, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to be informed about the school’s actions, the child’s performance and absences, while other possibilities will gradually be added, such as counseling services and teleconferences.
The ultimate goal is to join the Digital School and services related to the professional career, such as qualification certification, but also books, publications and magazines in digital format.
Mitsotakis for Digital School: We will continue with bold steps the great leap in Education
“Revolution in Education and in the way the course is conducted”, characterized the Prime Minister earlier Kyriakos Mitsotakis the Digital School with the implementation for the first time of the Digital Tutorial and other actions, in the presentation by the Roots of Imathia.
The presentation of the digital tutorial took place first in a class of students and then in front of students, teachers and parents who expressed their satisfaction with the increasing use of new technology in the educational process.
“We will continue with bold steps the great leap in Education”, pledged the prime minister and said that so far 20,000 interactive boards have been installed in schools and will reach 36,000 by the end of the year.
He emphasized the fact that the Digital Tutoring will be able to be used by students from remote areas and those whose families cannot afford the traditional tutoring and this, he said, will contribute to addressing social and regional inequalities.
He pointed out that the goal is to make Digital Education competitive with traditional education.
Mr. Mitsotakis participated in a panel with two students, the school principal and a parent. There he mentioned that he first got a computer in his second year of university and because they didn’t accept his handwritten assignments he was forced to type them on the typewriter until then.
At the same time, he drew attention to the dark side of the internet, such as bowling, and noted that in the next five years the European Commission and the countries of Europe should deal with tackling the addiction of young people to the internet, as it is a very serious issue .
