The prime minister’s optimistic message to young people who are thinking of becoming parents
THE Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed with him journalist Nikos Hatzinikolaou on the sidelines of the conferenceDemographics 2024 – National Priority“, in the Acropolis Museum.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis described demographics as a “national problem”, underlining that “60 policies have been implemented to support families, as well as the more active participation of the elderly in the labor market”.
He chose as a more essential measure the support of the family to make it easier to have a child.
“We have already made moves in this direction: We have increased the birth allowance that we introduced in 2019 with the increase being staggered according to the number of children, we have a benefit policy for families with children, we have programs for housing which is a critical factor to have children”.
“Easier and less financially burdensome to raise children”
“There are our fellow citizens who do not want children. I would focus my attention on families who already have children, who have one child and are having difficulty going for a second child. This is what I have discussed with the relevant ministry for families with one child who want to have a second, with two children who want to go for a third”, the prime minister pointed out in his statement, while also noting:
“We could look at incentives for businesses that provide support to families. we could think about tax incentives for more pediatric screening.”
He noted that the government policy aims to provide all parents with the opportunity to have access to nurseries, whether we are talking about the public or the private sector, while he did not fail to emphasize the importance of the All-day school.
In fact, he announced other initiatives after the European elections in terms of support for the acquisition of housing.
At the end of the discussion, Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to young people who are thinking of having a child.
“Anyone who is a parent knows that the joy of giving birth to a new life is incomparable. It is important for young couples who are 35-40 years old and have been hit by the crisis of previous years to feel safe. For this reason and through a series of policies we will make raising children easier and less burdensome financially”, he assured.
