Greece asks us to respect the name while they do not display it anywhere as it continues to refer to Skopje, and in fact in many places there is also the acronym Macedonia-FYROM, said the president of North Macedonia
The president of North Macedonia, Gordana Silianovska, claimed that she did not violate the Prespa Agreement, theWhen she was sworn in on May 12, she called the country “Macedonia”, while once again invoking the individual right to self-determination and self-determination.
Silianovska, responding to journalistic questions last night, recalled that she signed the text of the oath (false assurance) with the country’s constitutional name, Republic of North Macedonia.
“I respected the Prespa Agreement. I don’t see that I violated the Prespa Agreement. Besides, the Prespa Agreement itself clearly states that documents and communication will use the name derived from the Prespa Agreement, so I don’t see this as a violation here. I neither tore up the statutory assurance nor said that I will not respect the Constitution nor did I say that I would denounce the Prespa Agreement. Another thing is that I criticized the Prespa Agreement, due to its adoption process, due to its lack of agreement with the Charter of the United Nations. However, this is a legal fact, it is a reality and I will respect it,” said Gordana Silianovska.
Asked if this could affect the country’s European integration, Gordana Silianovska said that this question should be asked on the Greek side. He added that his country even changed the documents for internal use and invoked a provision of the Prespa Agreement, according to which this should take place in five years, after its entry into force, but also after the opening of the first accession capital with the EU.
“I could not answer, because probably the Greek representatives could answer better. I sometimes hear some warnings and threats, but I say that it is true that in International Law the principle applies that Agreements should be respected, but I think that always, when we ask the other person to do something, it is natural, in the context of a “win-win” logic, to ask ourselves what we have done. I think that everyone who went to Greece had the opportunity to see that the name they ask us to respect, they don’t show it anywhere. Skopje continues to exist, and in fact in many places there is also the acronym (s.s. Macedonia-FYROM). Not to mention the Memoranda,” said Gordana Silianovska.
