From Heraklion the prime minister began his visit to Crete, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Initially, Mr. Mitsotakis visited him Heraklion Port Organizationwhere he spoke with the officials of the Organization about the development of the port, the increase registered by the cruise sector, but also the concession contract signed with the group Grimaldi. In fact, Mr. Mitsotakis even watched a video about the port and the upgrade projects that have been implemented.

He also congratulated the management of OLI for the excellent – as he said – work it has done, “proving that an important asset, such as the port of Heraklion, can be further promoted and in this way secure the Greek State and a much better price.” As he noted, the process of the concession contract has practically been completed and its sanction by the Parliament is expected.

“We are a country identified with the sea, we need public investments, whether public or private, and we will continue to move forward on this path,” Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized and added: “We have managed to ensure that the resources that will come from from our port concessions, will be used to make further investments in other ports. Investments, which our ports need”. “Elevating our basic infrastructure has been a central priority of this government,” he concluded.

Then the prime minister was in Loggiaswhere he had a meeting with mayor of Heraklion, Alexis Kalokairinowho asked him, among other things, issues related to BOAKthe utilization of the Heraklion airport area “N. Kazantzakis” when the work is complete and operational the new international airport in Kastellithe Pankritio Stadiumthe arrangements of citizens’ debts to the Municipalitythe settlement of arbitrary, social housing, but also the need to speed up the process for granting the land zone of the port of Heraklion, as well as the school roof.

Upon his arrival at the Municipality of Heraklion, Mr. Mitsotakis referred to the very good cooperation that exists with the local government, while he pointed out that “Heraklion is a city with incredible dynamism, but it must properly organize this new development dynamic”. As he clarified, in this direction, cooperation is absolutely necessary.

“We have a rich agenda of issues, which we are already discussing about how we can better support the municipality,” added the prime minister.

Mr. Mitsotakis, accompanied by members of the government, candidates for MEPs, local MPs, but also local ND executives, had the opportunity to take a short walk in the center of the city, where he spoke with citizens, who wished him good success ahead of the European elections.

Afterwards, the prime minister will go to the election center of New Democracy where he will address the gathered citizens.
