In the Region of Thessaly there is a group of ministers, while the Prime Minister was welcomed by the Governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas.

Mr. Mitsotakis was informed by Mr. Kouretas about the operation of the Operational Center for Civil Protection, the mechanism regarding fire protection, but also the control of the flow of rivers in the Thessaly region.

The meeting is ongoing, with the prime minister referring to the government’s initiatives to strengthen Civil Protection in the country, stressing that the government is spending over 2 billion euros to strengthen Civil Protection infrastructure.

At the same time, he spoke about the importance of technology “because it enables us to have models that make very accurate predictions about the course of the phenomenon”, while he also referred to the importance of the cooperation of the competent bodies in protection and prevention.

“We’ve made a lot of progress across the country in working together better. The Fire Service, which has the first role, with the forestry services, with the municipalities, with the regions and the police, under a single coordination, we can face crises, always prioritizing the protection of human life”, he underlined, among other things, the Prime Minister.

“Civil Protection is about procedures and a spirit of cooperation, and I want to focus on that. I think we’ve made a lot of progress across the country in working better together.

The Fire Service, which always has the first role with the forest services, with the municipalities, with the regions, with the police, under a single coordination to be able to face any crisis as efficiently as possible, always putting forward both first and above all the protection of human life” continued the prime minister, adding that “we have another difficult summer ahead of us with difficult climatic conditions, which I fear may from now on be the rule and not the exception.

We have made the best possible preparation that we can, but obviously all this will be judged on the field and the efficiency with which we will deal with the summer fires, hoping of course that we will not again have to manage similar flooding phenomena to those that hurt us so much a lot in the past year. In any case, we will be more ready. I emphasize that I am not saying when we will be ready, we will be more ready, because it is a continuous effort”.
