The lawsuit concerns the offenses of insult and threat
A lawsuit against Lefteris Avgenakis was filed today by an employee of the “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport companyfollowing the release of security camera footage of the former minister attacking him because he was not allowed through the already closed gate.
The lawsuit concerns the offenses of insult and threat.
The incident has caused the intervention of justice while Mr. Avgenakis was deleted from the ND’s KO after he was referred to the ethics committee of the party by the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with a request for his deletion.
In particular, the Federation of Associations of Employees in Airport Services filed a complaint, stating that Mr. Avgenakis committed violence against an airline employee. As stated in the complaint, Mr. Avgenakis “was traveling from Athens to one of the prefectures of Crete. After a delay of several hours, he found himself in front of the airport workers and started shouting, according to the content of the complaint. At some point, as they transfer us, the situation seems to have gotten out of hand, with the former minister hitting a member of staff on the head with the tip of his mobile phone who fell unconscious at the ticket control counter, with the rest of the staff resorting to the assistance of the police.”
In fact, the former minister told the police officers who were called to handle the incident “don’t touch me, I have immunity”.
After the incident was made public, the head of the Athens District Attorney’s Office, Antonis Eleftherianos, ordered a preliminary investigation into the episode.
The preliminary investigation was ordered after the complaints of representatives of the workers at the airport and the submission of a report by a PASOK-KINAL MP.
According to the prosecutor’s order, the crimes to be investigated are violence against an employee, disruption of the operation of a public benefit enterprise, illegal violence and damage to a thing that serves the public good.
It is noted that the further legal proceedings will require the lifting of his parliamentary immunity.
