The entire work of Nikos Androulakis

“PASOK, the party that aligned its path with the interests of the country and the Greek people, is steadily regaining its leading role.
Our rise in the recent European elections may not have been as great as we wanted, but it confirmed that PASOK is steadily rising. It is the only party in power in our country, which increased its percentages and one of the few in all of Europe. Outside of Attica, in the region, we are the second party. PASOK’s color appeared again on the map of the territory. Our difference with New Democracy halved, while the distance with SYRIZA from 23 points in 2019, decreased to 2.

After a difficult fifteen years for our party, the worst days are now behind us.

The result also confirmed that the days of the omnipotence of the New Democracy are definitely over. Citizens sent a strong message about a five-year rule of missed opportunities that, instead of improving their lives after a decade of crisis, worsened them, resulting in a sharp rise in inequality again.

While the further decline of SYRIZA showed that messianic approaches backfire especially when they are not accompanied by a substantial political proposal.

The strengthening of the populist parties of the ultra-conservative right confirms that the battle against irrationality and the exploitation of the sensibilities of our people must be a daily one.

The increase in abstention demonstrated the crisis of confidence in the political system. Credibility and seriousness are today perhaps the biggest investment for a political body. These values are also my personal political compass.

I have been in the PASOK leadership for exactly two and a half years. I can proudly say that during this time our party only took steps forward. We secured our political autonomy and managed to increase our influence overturning the rule, which wants the parties that are between the basic “poles” to be compressed. Now we are also Poles.
In the municipal elections, we achieved significant victories throughout Greece. Our presence in workplaces, professional and scientific associations has been strengthened. Offices of our organizations were opened after years all over Greece and dozens of people came to us again – participating in our ballots – beyond the boundaries of the party, renewing and strengthening the human potential of the faction. We strengthened our international influence by obtaining the position of vice-president of the European Socialists and Democrats.
Our political initiatives have dealt blows against the Government as we have highlighted its inadequacies as well as its scandalous methods.

We tabled proposals on accuracy, bad loans, the housing crisis, health, the environment, civil protection, primary sector restructuring, the green transition.

I am the last one to claim that everything was done right. They didn’t happen and that’s why I took responsibility.

I know what we need to improve and without the pressure of constant electoral contests I am determined to serve two specific goals: firstly, to improve the functioning of the party by making it the most modern and participatory, counterweight to the crisis of representation that is sweeping the political system and secondly with the policies our initiatives to once again become the voice of the underprivileged of our time and of the middle class not only in the periphery but also in the large urban centers. The unemployed, the young under-employed, the low-paid, the small- and medium-sized entrepreneurs and the low-pensioners.

Although my term is not yet completed, I suggested that we speed up the leadership election procedures so that our faction avoids the vortex of a dissolving introversion.

I will again be a candidate for President of PASOK. To continue our upward trajectory, with even greater momentum. Always keeping the same values, of seriousness, responsibility, avoiding any dependence on interests. But also with more intense action. With more aggressive communication. With even more initiatives. With greater collegiality. And with absolute respect for our political autonomy and the great history of PASOK.

The convergence of the country’s progressive forces, which I also desire, does not mean the political burial of PASOK. Converting it from a comma to a component is not acceptable. My plan is for the faction to strengthen and expand both sides at the same time.

In a few weeks it will be 50 years since Andreas Papandreou founded PASOK to express the hope of an entire people for national independence, popular sovereignty, social liberation. To become a force for change in Greek society. And he succeeded. Thousands of citizens came out of the margins and gained a voice and a perspective. Inequalities have eased. The welfare state was strengthened and major institutional changes made Greece a more modern country at the core of the EU and with prestige. Despite any mistakes, strong Greece became a reality.

Our history is our pride. And the duty of all of us is to take PASOK even higher.

To continue to be hope for our country and support for our people. In this fight, I call on everyone to move forward together.”
