The collaboration between the two leaders on the sidelines of the NATO summit lasted 41 minutes – The Prime Minister noted the need to restart the talks on the Cyprus issue
Their fifth meeting in the last 12 months was held by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the sidelines of his Summit NATO.
In the short meeting, which started shortly before 11 pm Greek time and lasted 41 minutes, the foreign ministers were present Giorgos Gerapetritis and Hakan Fidan and the diplomatic advisors Anna-Maria Bura and Akif Chagatai Kilic.
As the Greek side informed, during the meeting issues of international and regional interest were discussed with an emphasis on the latest developments in the Middle East and Ukraine.
The two leaders proceeded to briefly review bilateral relations after their last meeting last May in Ankara.
The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with the Turkish authorities in the fight against irregular immigration.
The two leaders agreed on the mutual benefit of maintaining a climate of calm in bilateral relations. They also agreed to intensify cooperation to achieve the goal of doubling the volume of bilateral trade.
They also discussed their next meeting to be held in September in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The prime minister referred to the Cyprus problem, stressing that 50 years after the tragedy of 1974, Cyprus, a member state of the EU, cannot remain divided and reiterated the need to restart talks to resolve the Cyprus.
The next meeting of Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the Turkish president is expected to take place in September, in New York.
