New nails for government policy were thrown in the Parliament by Marios Salmas, with the “blue” member of parliament harshly criticizing the charges in interbank transactions but also the lending rates, posing a topical question.
“Lending rates to many are too much higher than zero deposit rates. We’re talking about speculation,” stressed the deputy, with himself adding, addressing the Deputy Minister of Finance, Christos Dimas: “For tax reasons, the government obliges citizens to do transactions through banks. You oblige the citizens. If there is speculation there is a responsibility of the government”.
“You mentioned something self-evident, you will allow me to mention something self-evident,” Christos Dimas replied to the ND MP, with the deputy minister specifically mentioning all the measures the government has taken regarding interest rates and charges in transactions: ” As for the initiatives that we have taken as a government, I want to say that too many of them have passed the parliament and you have also contributed as a member of the majority by voting for them”.
In his rebuttal, however, the deputy made it clear that his confidence that the government will act is a given, underlining that the people “he can’t wait long.”
