Reactions also within the Parliament caused by the vulgar attack of Pavlos Polakis on the secretary of the ND, Maria Syregela, with Deputy Minister of Justice, Yannis Bouga to condemn in the public administration committee any form of violence, emphasizing how “there are no gradations in violence.” “Yesterday, one of our colleagues received unprovoked verbal abuse from another colleague, and in fact with disparaging, insulting, sexist references”the Deputy Minister emphasized, with him even underlining that Stefanos Kasselakis was forced to call Maria Syregela himself as he failed to convince Pavlos Polakis to do so: “Because the president of the official opposition party probably failed to convince his MP to apologize himself, he was forced to call our colleague to apologize, but was dismissed by his MP himself saying that I don’t take anything back and I stand by what I said.”
Mr. Bougas also addressed his colleagues from the official opposition who were in the room, arguing that “What struck me is that none of the colleagues from the opposition parties who defend the rights of women and vulnerable social groups made the slightest mention or felt the need to condemn this fact. Even the rapporteur of the official opposition party who took the floor, in the agenda of the issues that he did not have time to raise and will tell the Minister tomorrow, did not mention the condemnation of the incident which must be without any footnotes and without any differentiation at all »
“We have no intention or disposition to hide topical issues as in this case with a mood of wit and irony you put it”, commented on the side of SYRIZA o Alexandros Avlonitis, adding: “The president of my party apologized. Wasn’t that enough for you? Did you want me too?’
“Give me a verbal report of your fellow MP who referred to our leader by putting o or n for his preferences, any preferences,” concluded the SYRIZA MP, referring to the ND MP for Drama, Dimitris Kyriazidis.
