With a video posted on social networks, he explains the reasons why he decided to run for the leadership of PASOK
Anna Diamantopoulou officially announced her candidacy for PASOK leadership, with a post on social networks.
In the video, Ms. Diamantopoulou explains the reasons why she decided to run for the presidency of the party.
It is noted that the candidacy of Anna Diamantopoulos for the presidency of PASOK is the eighth so far, after Androulakis, Doukas, Geroulanos, Apostolakis, Katrinis, Giannakopoulos, Kanellakis.
In particular, Ms. Diamantopoulou states:
“I believe in society. I believe in politics, I believe in the power of man to define his destiny, in the power of each and every one of us to dream and build a better life.
This is what my generation and a number of Greeks achieved with the PASOK of Change and progressive reforms in power.
We are facing critical crossroads. And at these crossroads, I believe that together with PASOK, activating the inexhaustible forces of our party, with a vision for our lives, with political positions with substance, faith, work and realism, we can show the way and walk it together .
That is why I am standing as a candidate for President of PASOK and I invite you to the polls on October 6. For all those who are affected and marginalized by the failure of New Democracy and Mr. Mitsotakis and for all of us who see inequalities grow while we know we can do better.
For a large and governing PASOK.
For a homeland that gives the right to every Greek woman and every Greek man to look the future in the eyes and know what is happening”.

A. Crisis and progressive reconstitution
Societies in the West, in Europe and in Greece send the imperative message, “make politics reliable, efficient and fair” at every election opportunity, in many and different ways. At the same time everywhere, as long as the message remains unanswered, political systems and their party pillars are driven to liquidation.
In our country, after a period of stability, the European elections sent out the same signal. The government had a lot of attrition and for the first time in its five-year term it is being driven to the point of no return.
The message to the Mitsotakis government was resounding: “Your political dynamism has been exhausted, the staff state has failed, the deep state dominates, precision is eating up the income of the Greeks widening social inequalities and now the country is regressing increasing the deviations from Europe”.
At the same time, after the SYRIZA government and its subsequent policy from the position of official opposition, in addition to the rapid fall in electoral power, it has created a gloomy image for left-wing identity and politics in society.
The political and party system, therefore, are on the path of transition from liquidation to reconstitution. We will either lead the transition by intervening with a political plan for the benefit of progress, or we will continue to hand it over to the forces of preservation to the extreme.
Now emerges, for the progressive space, the main political challenge: to take the lead in terms of an alternative pole in the restructuring of the political system. This challenge from a progressive point of view means changing the current political balances with the main axis of creating a new social democratic faction as the body of a progressive political and social majority.
B. The social democratic challenge of the 21st century
It is my deep and firm belief that social democracy is the fairest, freest and most humane political and social condition that has historically existed until today. The one that suits separately, in Europe and Greece.
However, it is indisputable that every ideology, in order to be able to reproduce and self-evolve, must constantly seek modern answers to ongoing problems (social inequalities), to new needs and demands (climate crisis, demographics, digital revolution, geopolitical conflicts and rearrangements, the migration, energy and food sufficiency, border and domestic security) that arise especially in today’s changing world. Always in the light of social democratic values but also with the required courage to restructure policies.
Social democratic identity and politics, must and can give hope and answer to the Millennials, Generations Z and Y, today’s young people who are digital natives and their politicization also concerns new stakes centered on the environment, artificial intelligence , rights a new culture of life.
It must and can protect all those who struggle for a difficult daily life and especially women who still have the main responsibility of taking care of the family, while at the same time working, with a huge deficit of supportive social structures.
It must and can highlight the basic dividing lines with conservation in all its forms, populist, traditional, supposedly liberal. With policies that are not reflexive, but primary, authentically progressive, that release and inspire social forces and respond to modern problems with modern and fair solutions.
Unfortunately, in the last period, conservation in Europe and Greece formed a hegemonic role in the space of ideas and imposed its political supremacy, exploiting, among other things, serious mistakes due to ideology, political disorientation and managerial inadequacy of the progressive space. This situation needs serious and systematic ideological, political, programmatic work and social intervention to reverse it. Already the first seeds of a reversal can be seen with the victories of Labor in Great Britain and with the barrier against Le Pen in the parliamentary elections in France.
Essentially, this counterattack, in order to have a foundation and a perspective, requires the creation in Europe and in Greece of a progressive narrative that will provide a vision for social change, that will inspire credibility and trust and that will propose a concrete plan for a better life, for everyone.
C. The Great and Governing PASOK
The progressive narrative that the country needs, the other path that society seeks for the governance of the country, can only be implemented by the Great and Governing PASOK. It has already been proven in recent history that the currents and waves of change have succeeded or failed by the social acceptance of their vision, the clear plan and the realistic political implementation of these changes. Hasty fusions of disparate forces, without leadership, without plan and body can inspire no one. In order to have a large and governing Progressive Party in Greece, we need to have a large and governing PASOK again.
We point out here that any discussion of governmental collaborations, alliances and coalitions under the conditions and conditions of a “small, weakened and complementary PASOK” is a serious political mistake, and constitutes an agenda, disorientation and manipulation of the very political existence and perspective of PASOK.
Today, the Great and Governing PASOK can be built under 3 interrelated conditions:
1. The formation of a modern, convincing and socially grounded, alternative program for Greece in the 21st century. The basic quadrilateral is:
Strong Greece, protagonist in Europe and with a plan for the new World in Asia and Africa.
Rule of Law, effective, essentially decentralized with deep institutional and constitutional changes.
Foundation of a New Social State with quality social services for all and simultaneous support for those in real need.
Economic Development and a Productive Greece that will pioneer the 4th Industrial Revolution (from the Agricultural Sector and Justice to Health, Labor and Business).
We will submit this programmatic framework in an edited form to the Greek people in the 2027 elections.
2. The organization of a Movement, which in the face of the great and complex problems of the 21st century must function as a real collective intellectual with democracy and common action. A party, which will be the protagonist in the production of modern politics, organized, with institutions and rules, with evaluation, participation and intervention in the center and in the periphery.
Today with the internet and the new forms of collective organization in society, continuous and organized consultation is required with social actors, with the world of work and businesses, with citizen networks and with civil society organizations. Partnerships are needed with countries where models are being implemented from which we can learn.
The Great, Governmental PASOK will be participatory, extroverted, open to ideas, currents and above all to people.
3. The creation of an Identity and a Governance Group, with universal openness to society and the utilization of every worthwhile availability for offer.
In the challenge of the election process for the leadership of PASOK – Movement for Change, I will be present and I ask you to sign my candidacy which is a condition for my participation. I accept and assume the historical responsibility and send a message of enlistment and support to all of you.
I honor all my co-nominations and my co-candidates, the democratic faction can only win from the participation of such worthy executives. A beautiful and clean race today, ensures unity and success for tomorrow.
Together we can go very high and the time is now.
