Defense Minister Nikos Dendias referred to the black anniversary of 50 years since Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus in his post, he referred to the black anniversary of 50 years since Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus.

Specifically he writes:

“50 years since Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus.

We do not forget. We honor and thank the fallen, the missing and those who defended the freedom of Megalonisos.

We do not accept the continuation of illegal occupation in violation of International Law and the UN Charter.

For the Greek Armed Forces, Cyprus is nearby.

We are fighting in full solidarity with the Republic of Cyprus to find a sustainable solution based on the decisions of the United Nations Security Council.”

This is what the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, points out, in his post on his personal account on “X”, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, attaching a photo from the monument to the Fallen in Cyprus – located in the Hellenic Army Park in Goudi – where the verses of G. Seferis are written on a separate plaque:

“Memory wherever you touch it hurts,

the sky is small, there is no sea,

what they kill during the day they empty with carts

behind the back…

There will be a resurrection at dawn. How they shine

in the spring the trees will turn golden yellow

the fibrillation. It will be the sea again

wave will shake Venus.

We are the dying seed.”
