Tayyip Erdoğan made new provocative statements from the Occupied Territories. who insisted on rejecting a solution to the Cyprus problem, saying that there is no case for a federal solution.
At the same time, he attacked the president of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Histodoulidis speaking of spoiled logic, while many times he referred to Turkish invasion in Cyprus using the term “peacekeeping operation”.
Diplomatic sources responded to the provocative statements of the Turkish president, who referred to the speech that the prime minister is going to make this evening, while stressing that the Greek positions on the Cyprus issue have been clearly formulated and fixed for decades. They are expressed jointly by the Greek Prime Minister and the Greek government.
In fact, they note that Greece, in agreement with the Republic of Cyprus, remains firmly committed to the solution of the reunification of Cyprus, within the framework of the decisions of the United Nations Organization, and will continue to do so.
In a highly symbolic visit, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is going to Cyprus today for the 50th anniversary of Attila’s invasion. THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis at 20:30 he will attend and speak at the memorial event organized by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
Erdogan’s provocative speech
The Turkish president arrived early in the morning in occupied Nicosia, where, among others, the Turkish state and political leadership is gathered. Him Recep Tayyip Erdogan accompanied by the political leaders who support the governing coalition, including the chairman of the Nationalist Action Party of the Gray Wolves, Devlet Bakhceli.
Speaking before the start of the military parade, the president of Turkey insisted on the two-state solution to the Cyprus conflict, saying characteristically: “It is not possible to wash yourself twice with the same water. Ignoring the reality on the island leads nowhere. We believe that a federal solution is not possible in Cyprus”. He added that it does no one any good to continue the negotiations from where they left off in Switzerland.
“If you want a solution, recognize the acquired rights of the Turkish Cypriots. I hope we will see the day when the leaders of the guarantor countries of the island will visit both states together. I personally expressed this sincere wish to the Greek Prime Minister, Mr. Mitsotakis, whom I met at the NATO Summit in Washington. The strengthening of the dialogue between Turkey and Greece will undoubtedly contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem,” said Tayyip Erdogan, among others.
At the same time, the Turkish president attacked the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, calling his statements “absurd” during his recent visit to Cyprus. He even claimed that, during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he had told him “I hope you don’t harass us from there like Dendias”.
Referring to the property capital, Tayyip Ernotgan referred to the so-called “Real Estate Committee”. In particular, he said: “Here, I must clearly emphasize that the Real Estate Commission, which is internationally recognized as an effective domestic remedy, is the only way to resolve the issue of real estate on the island. Those who think they will achieve their goals by exerting pressure on the Turkish Cypriots are greatly mistaken. Neither we will allow fait accompli nor will the Turkish Cypriot people succumb to threats.”
In addition, he stated that Turkey resolutely continues its efforts to recognize the self-proclaimed “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” and thanked the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, “for his steadfast leadership in this process” and for inviting the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar at the informal Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held recently in Susa.
Previously, Ersin Tatar took the floor, who after standing in favor of the “two-state solution” argued, among other things, that the “Turkish Cypriot people” are an integral part of the Turkish world, “as stated at the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States” and he argued that the borders of the organization in question became even stronger with the participation, as he said, of “the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the southernmost Turkish state, extending into the Eastern Mediterranean.”
Since yesterday, Friday, the president of the Kemalist Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ozgiur Ozel, accompanied by 174 veterans and Ayse Gunes Ayata, whose name has become the slogan “Ayse can go on vacation” with the which launched the second wave of the Turkish army in August 1974.
A statement he made in the meeting with Tufan Erhiurman, chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Republican Turkish Party, CHP’s sister party, was interpreted as saying that he does not oppose the resumption of talks on the Cyprus issue and that he does not insist on a two-state solution. For his part, the Turkish Cypriot politician expressed his support for the solution of the Bizonal Bi-communal Federation, a position that contradicts both what Tatar supports and the recent resolution of the Turkish National Assembly, which calls for the international recognition of a Turkish Cypriot state and emphasizes that the two-state solution is the only solution.
