“The point is every day more and more that the citizens feel that we are close to them, that we are fighting all those phenomena, from serious crime to the everyday life of the citizens”, emphasized the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis from Thesprotia, where he announced the creation of the new Police Station.

The Minister visited today, Wednesday July 31, 2024, the building where the new Thesprotia Police Station will be housed (at the Vigliza location of the Municipality of Igoumenitsa). As he said: “I am very happy because as Minister of Citizen Protection, I will again add, in Thesprotia, another important infrastructure, which creates conditions for better security and better working conditions for the Police. Here, at the border, they fight every day to deal with crime, trafficking and create security conditions in an area that is developing and has a large flow of visitors.”

In addition, he emphasized that the financing of the project, which amounts to approximately 8.7 million, has been secured from the programs of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and European resources. “I hope very quickly and immediately that it will be completed, since, as you can see, for the most part, the main work, has already been carried out. So, there is work left, which will mainly make the building functional and this entire area manageable, where our police services will be housed,” he said. In fact, Mr. Chrysochoidis praised for the successful development of the project, the role of the Member of Parliament of Thesprotia, Vassilis Yogiakas, who accompanied him on his visit, noting that the new Police Station is a fulfillment of the promise of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself. .

Afterwards, the Minister of Citizen Protection, together with the Mayors of Igoumenitsa and Souli, the General Regional Police Director of Epirus and Police officers of Thesprotia were given a tour of the premises of the building.

Finally, Mr. Chrysochoidis was at the border control point in Mavromati and visited the Passport Control Department of Sayadas. In fact, as he said, “I was a very young Minister who came here to install, for the first time, the border station in Mavromati. Now, 23 years later, things are completely different in the region. They are better, they are safer and of course more developed. This is our great joy. Let’s see Epirus, Thesprotia developing, creating new resources and of course creating security conditions for the citizens every day. I am very happy that Mavromati, a small station, which every day absorbs several thousand visitors, from and to the neighboring country and I am also happy that all those phenomena that hurt us in the past do not exist today or are minimal”, he concluded characteristically.
