A total of 211 new buses will be on the roads of Attica by January – February 2025, while natural gas buses are also expected by June 2025
Thirty (30) new buses are expected at the end of August, which will be accessible for the disabled, said the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Christos Staikouras. He noted that 40% of the bus fleet today does not have accessibility for the disabled.
A total of 211 new buses – as he mentioned – are expected to be on the roads of Attica by January – February 2025, while by June 2025 natural gas buses are expected to be on the roads of Athens and 300 leasing buses are at the audit conference.
“The renewal of the bus fleet has started for the first time since 2009. We already have 250 electric buses on the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki,” he said.
He emphasized that “we will achieve a radical renewal of the bus fleet in the next 18 months, improving the everyday life of the citizen”.
The minister said that from November there will also be a metro in Thessaloniki.
He underlined that in Thessaloniki there are 3 interventions:
- The buses, 110 electric buses are on the roads
- The metro, the main line, 13 stops will operate in November 2024 and the second half of 2025 plus 5 more stations up to Kalamaria and
- the Flyover is working well and will be completed in 2027
