“Activities related to Confidence Building Measures continue with Greece,” Güler said, among other things
Greek-Turkish relations and the Turkish program for the supply of fighter aircraft were mentioned by the Minister of Defense of Turkey, Yasar Güler, in an interview with the Turkish television network Haberturk.
Yasar Güler noted that “both the Turkish president and the Greek prime minister have made a very good agreement with a really positive approach, that is, with the aim of being able to live in a more positive environment instead of increasing the tension, entering into conflicts between us. And we are making every effort to strictly adhere to the agreement.”
He pointed out that “activities related to Confidence Building Measures continue with Greece. We support this, we really support it” and recalled that last month, the head of the Turkish Fleet made a trip to Athens and met with his Greek counterpart. “It was very positive” he commented.
Regarding the ongoing negotiations with the Americans on the procurement of F16 fightersYasar Güler said that these are developing positively, there is understanding from the American side, “but we have not reached the end yet.” As he said, “there are certain munitions that will accompany the aircraft and we want them.”
Finally, the Turkish Minister of Defense also referred to his country’s request for the purchase of European Eurofighter fighters. “I think we’re getting close to the end,” he said, arguing that his three partners Eurofighter – the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy – are equally willing.
