The Minister of Health cites a number of data, which, as he points out, similar deficiencies existed under the SYRIZA government – SYRIZA’s reaction
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis responded to SYRIZA with his post regarding the Kos hospital.
The Minister of Health cites in his text on Twitter, a series of data – which he points out – prove the fact that similar staff shortages existed during the period of government of the country by SYRIZA and he responds to the incident cited by the official opposition in his statement .
In detail, the post of A.Georgiadis is as follows:
“Because today they started a new story with the Hospital of Kos, let’s see a few things in order, maybe we can get along like people instead of cultivating impressions.
In 2014, Syriza, with its then Head of Health and the Dodecanese Member of Parliament at the time submitted a question to the Parliament complaining about the lack of staff at the Kos Hospital: https://kostoday.gr/%CF%80%CE%BF%CE%BB% CE%B9%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE/%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE-%CF%80% CE%BF%CE%BB%CE%B9%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE/%CE%B5%CF%81%CF%8E%CF%84%CE%B7%CF %83%CE%B7-%CE%B4-%CE%B3%CE%AC%CE%BA%CE%B7-%CE%B1-%CE%BE%CE%B1%CE%BD%CE%B8 %CE%BF%CF%8D-%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CF%84%CE%BF-%CE%B3%CE%B5%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE% BA%CF%8C-%CE%BD%CE%BF%CF%83%CE%BF%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%BC%CE%B5%CE%AF%CE%BF-%CE% BA%CF%89 here is the question.
In March 2019, the then four-year-old Minister of Health of Syriza Mr. Andreas Xanthos, the same one who 5 years ago as an opposition asked the question about the urgency of recruitment in Kos, visited the Hospital and promised…staff recruitment, because the workers they complained of great staff shortages (and promised the new Hospital whose financier we now secured). Here is the evidence: https://aegeanews.gr/news/ta-en-dimo/235860/foto-vinteo-ksanthos-sto-nosokomeio-parelave-apo-georganti-meleti-skopimotitas-tou-neou-nosokomeiou-anathetoume -stathera-vimata-meleti-eksasfalizoume-chrimatodotisi-aksonikos-themata-prosopikou/
That is, 4 years in Syriza and the problem of staff shortage continued there.
The problem continued with our own Government as well, as it is now known all over Greece, most of the invitations to hire permanent staff there have become barren. This problem led us to the familiar arrangement of the summer and my visit there and the announcements I made of simultaneous invitations in September with the new incentives.
Regarding the now reported incident, the facts are as follows:
Syriza issued this announcement: https://x.com/syriza_gr/status/1824746555238191314 the announcement is false as there has never been a 69-year-old heart attack patient who was treated by a gynecologist, as they falsely write. A 69-year-old man was brought in with a heart attack, already dead unfortunately and no one treated him until his death was confirmed. EKAV ie received him without a pulse (sincere condolences to his family)
According to the information we received from the TEPs, on August 15, a 48-year-old case with signs of a heart attack was reported. The rural doctor, following the image of the cardiogram, called the Director of the Medical Service, Gynecology specialty, Mr. Kotsidas. Following instructions received by both of them from the cardiologist of the Hospital, Mr. Vlachos Dimitriou, who was not on duty, the incident was immediately reported to Crete in PAGNI. He was a former heart attack patient and had to be admitted to a heart attack unit. In 40′ he arrived at the airport and is being monitored in Crete, he is in good health and within the next few days he will leave the intensive care unit, as the Director of the Medical Service of GN Kos was informed by his treating doctors in PAGNI today.
Regarding the Cardiologist Mr. Cetin, who was complained that we hired him with a block for only one month, he is a cardiologist originally from Xanthi, a former doctor of the National Health Service who previously served in the General Hospital of Kos and resigned. Finally we hired him with a block until August 12 initially, but he agreed to stay with a block for another 6 months and so he will be for another 6 months at Kos Hospital. But the main thing is that due to our reforms in the National Health Service, he has decided that he wants to return as a permanent member and so in the semester we will re-advertise his position so that he can return to a permanent position at G.N Kos. Note that he was not at the Hospital on the 15th because he had gone to Xanthi to move his things, as he is moving to Kos to serve at the Hospital.
No matter how much they shout, we will fix the timeless and present problems in the NSS with hard work one by one.
The 48-year-old, however, if indeed some were worried about him and we took care of him and luckily he was saved.”
SYRIZA’s reaction
“The habitually lying Minister of Health has finally answered about the treatment of a heart attack by an obstetrician-gynecologist during the holiday of the Fifteenth of August, on the overcrowded tourist island of Kos. As usual, he enumerates misleadingly before and after the reference to the events in dispute”, says the SYRIZA PS in its announcement about the Minister of Health.
“So we only respond to what concerns the facts”, adds SYRIZA in particular, mentioning the following:
“1. Adonis Georgiadis disputes the accuracy of the report only in terms of the age of the patient treated (he claims that he is 48 years old and not 69), which is easily identified by his AMKA. Probably for Mr. Georgiadis, the (allegedly) 48-year-old is more suitable for gynecological treatment than a 69-year-old…
2. He acknowledges that it is only rarely on an island with such a population that such incidents occur, given that on the same day he arrived at the TEP (with the gynecologist) and another with OEM, already dead. So having a hospital with a gynecologist on call is an exposure to a very possible risk, not a rare event.
3. The rural doctor called, she says, the gynecologist, but why? Did he get confused and make a mistake, or did he not have another specialist doctor at the hospital, more relevant to the matter? He does not clarify the telephone instructions of a cardiologist who was not on duty and was obviously not in the area, and of course the one who would apply them or not (therapist) is the gynecologist who was present and not any telemedicine specialist. For all the rest (consultation with PAGNI, preparation of air transport, safe transport to the airport, etc.) he does not doubt that the attending gynecologist did them.
4. For the details of dealing with the specific incident, the airlift, his hospitalization, etc., there are the recorded conversations of the treating gynecologist with the Heraklion Hospital and the EKAB, the transcription of which can and should be ordered immediately by the Prosecutor, which he will put each working Minister in his place, that is, his home or in the school of rhetoric he has”.
As a postscript to its announcement, SYRIZA asks if “it is true that Adonis Georgiadis has been in Rhodes for many days to be informed in detail about the health issues on the island” and comments that “in any case, we wish him a good time in whatever island and be located…”
