Anna Diamantopoulou’s letter to Local Government officials
“My vision for a “Great and Governing PASOK” requires the unity of all. PASOK – Change Movement should once again become the great change movement of the new era“, says, among others, the candidate for the leadership of PASOK-Movement of Change, Anna Diamantopoulou, in a letter she sent to the mayors of the party, to executives and friends, as she says, in the area of self-government, asking for their support.
“In my long political career I came to a personal conclusion:
“Knowledge of the local is a prerequisite for the national, European and international”, points out Mrs. Diamantopoulou, referring to her political activity since her position as Prefect of Kastoria, which “was my big school and an important station throughout the my political path. Serving the local vision and the experience of achieving local goals provided me with a wealth of knowledge, experience and confidence to fight major issues of National, European and Global scope, with tangible positive results, always within the framework of the basic principles of social democracy and adapted to the needs and possibilities of 2030 This experience I aspire to use today for the country and the Movement by running for the position of President of PASOK – Movement for Change“, as he notes.
He emphasizes how the goal of “is to form together a party open to the citizenry, and primarily a party that highlights the institution of T.A. a key pillar of democracy, progress, development and social cohesion, unbound and self-reliant».
He reminds that PASOK, from its founding declaration, highlighted the institution of T.A. as one of the main pillars of its ideological and value identity and promoted very substantial reforms with the establishment of the regions (1986), the Prefectural Self-Government (in 1994), the “Kapodistrias” Program (in 1997) and the “Kallikratis” Program ( in 2010), which were accompanied by a series of development initiatives, changed the map and upgraded the role of T.A. in previous decades.
The PASOK leadership candidate, addressing the party’s self-governing officials, underlines:Organized decentralization in all sectors is today the first priority and the emergence of Local Government as a driver of development and social policy …. Sectoral interventions of a strategic nature are required, which we will talk about together, such as territorial cohesion, economic and administrative autonomy, attracting specialized human resources at local level as well as expanding the role of Local Government in the country’s state system, which will contribute to changing the production model and to Regional and Local development».
“I thought it appropriate to contact you politically by sending in principle the declaration of principles and positions of my candidacy. I consider your contribution crucial in this special period for the faction and the country, where PASOK – Movement for Change should once again become the great change movement of the new era and which will bring to Greek society politics with new terms and values and the Local and Regional Self-Government as a central driver of development.
This struggle is collective and has one goal, the election of the new President with a vision and perspective for our country and place. PASOK has always been a pioneer and was the one that paved the way for the election of the President from the base of society. Today, PASOK – Movement for Change must reaffirm the message that it is moving towards a new leadership that will have a vision, a plan, dynamics and reflexes of power for the new era.
My vision for the “Great and Governing PASOK“requires the unity of all of us, respect and the promotion of institutions as a basic core of our ideological and value identity, concludes Anna Diamantopoulou in her letter.
