Mr. Kasselakis harshly criticizes the prime minister and accuses the government of “democratic and institutional deficit and economic decline”.
The need “to transform SYRIZA into a modern European political body, which will extend from the European left to the progressive center, while addressing a call for cooperation to all progressive forces” is underlined by the president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, in an article of at Sunday step.
Mr. Kasselakis harshly criticizes the prime minister and accuses the government of “democratic and institutional deficit and economic decline”.
Regarding SYRIZA, he notes that “citizens are asking us to turn to governability and realism”. He clarifies that “the modern Left is not hostile to an open economy, but clearly opposes the neoliberal narrative that the ‘invisible hand of the market’ will correct distortions in the economy” and adds:
“It is necessary to move towards the security economy, strengthening the role of the state in the economy, with a new-Keynesian model, which will maintain the volume of public spending… A necessary condition is the formation of an active and ‘smart’ state, which it will redirect – without shrinking – public spending where there really is a need.”
Regarding the role of SYRIZA, he notes: “We must reintroduce ourselves to Greek men and women, abandoning political messianism, which wants the Left to be the owner of the one and only truth, and opening the party to society. We must listen to the concerns of the citizens, strengthening the democratic functioning of the institutions and encouraging functional pluralism, without it turning into a chaotic partisan Babel that is constantly clashing over procedural issues. Society today needs a progressive political proposal more than ever.”
