The newly built state-of-the-art Mouzaki health center and the Palamas health center, which were repaired and upgraded after the disasters caused by the bad weather “Daniel”, were visited by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakisin the context of his visit to the region of Thessaly.

“I distinctly remember, as the minister also said, the image of the old health center being swept away by the river. It was perhaps the most striking image from the Janus phenomenon”, noted the Prime Minister during the official inauguration ceremony health center in Mouzakiwhich has opened its doors since mid-August.

“And of course, then, when I had arrived, we had immediately taken the decision to build a new health center and to include its construction in the framework of a large overall contract which we did to restore the great damages of “Ianos” at the time.

It was a solution which was proved by reality to be the appropriate one, because we succeeded and carried out the restorations in record time for the Greek public administration. I want to emphasize that the projects we built after “Janos” also stood up to “Daniel”, which means they were projects built with different specifications. I would say that this is the model, this is the template for the much larger restorations that we are now starting with the Ministry of Infrastructure and with the region so that Thessaly heals its wounds as a whole.

I am happy, Mr. Minister, because today we are inaugurating a state-of-the-art health center, which is already in operation and has been handed over to the citizens of Mouzaki. A health center obviously much better than the previous one, with excellent medical equipment and of course fully staffed.

It is another proof, after the health center which we also inaugurated in Palamathat this government supports the National Health System, but primarily supports primary care.

The health center here in Mouzaki will provide quality health services for the whole Municipality, for the wider region, incorporating new technologies and telemedicine, so that the citizens of the wider area of Mouzaki, the Municipality, know that they have access to the best strong medical services.

The NHS, despite its problems, which we have never hidden, is progressing, changing. Significant resources from the Recovery Fund are directed to important interventions that will be made in more than 150 health centers throughout the territory, in more than 60 hospitals where we are rebuilding the emergency departments.

And of course, I want to emphasize once again that the medical staff currently serving in the National Health System has significantly increased compared to 2019.

It is a continuous effort that is being made, but in the face of the workers in this health center I want to recognize each and every one of them individually. His executives National Health System they are the ones who made us white-faced during the pandemic. The entire administrative structure of the National Health System, the health district, which does a very important job.

We will constantly strive to provide the best possible health services to every Greek woman and to every Greek man, in every corner of our homeland. So the new health center is welcome, mayor”, noted the prime minister.

The new health center in Mouzaki is housed in a building with an area of more than 1,110 square meters and has all the infrastructure and equipment to provide a high level of primary health care.

The prime minister was given a tour of the facilities, spoke with the staff and was informed about the possibilities of the structure, the construction of which was launched immediately, as part of the previous KY had been deemed unsuitable and could be demolished. In the meantime, the provision of health services was ensured through the temporary housing of the center in another municipal building.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was given a guided tour inside the Palamas health center and had the opportunity to visit the new emergency department, which is a donation from the President of the “Together for the Child” organization, Alexandras Martinou, and “The Hellenic Initiative”.

“Let me express my joy, Mr. Mayor, because one year after the catastrophic flood of “Daniel”, the health center of Palamas is better than it was before. And this is due to the coordinated effort of the state, but also of the private sector.

Let me in turn thank the lady Alexandra Martinou“Together for the Child” and all the sponsors who supported this effort, in record time, to be able to rebuild the health center, but above all to upgrade it with additional health services, so that the residents of the wider area can enjoy quality primary care.

As the minister said, further intervention in the health center is expected, with resources from the Recovery Fund. I would say that this is a micrograph of an overall effort that is being made in the National Health System, so that the infrastructures are essentially upgraded: many health centers, emergency departments in hospitals, new equipment.

I would like to thank the 5th health district and its commander, because he bent over the problem with great dedication. And of course, in a little while we will have the opportunity to meet in Mouzaki, where we will see a more difficult task, because we must not forget that we were also hit by another natural phenomenon some years ago, by “Yanos”.

And I still remember the images then, we’ll see you later, basically the old health center has literally been taken by the river. But the goal is when we rebuild infrastructure to make it better and more resilient than before.

And here this effort we are making is an effort so that all the citizens of the country know, regardless of where they live, that they will have access to quality health services.

And as we will have the opportunity for Palamas to grow in a little while, as we will also welcome the residents of Metamorfosi, I believe, Mr. Mayor, that a quality health center, well staffed, because we are not talking here only about machines, but we are talking about a complete staffing of health personnel, is one more reason why not only people should stay in Palamas, but why you can potentially attract even more residents to your beautiful village”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The unit reopens from the end of May with new electrical, mechanical and building interventions, while the medical machines, beds and other hotel equipment were completely replaced.

In addition to the projects for the health structures in Mouzaki and Palamas, the local health unit of Giannoulis, which was also severely damaged by the bad weather “Daniel”, has been re-opening since April.

During his stay in Mouzaki, the prime minister also visited the building that is being reconstructed and will house the new probationary police department, which is expected to open its doors to around 250 trainees next October.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis walked inside the school and had the opportunity to see the areas that will become the classrooms, the dormitories, the restaurant and other areas.

Relocation of the settlement of Metamorfosi – “A new small town”

As part of his visit to the regional unit of Karditsa, the prime minister also visited the settlement of Metamorfosi, which suffered extensive damage last year from the bad weather “Daniel”, and discussed with the residents about the progress of the relocation project of their village.

The area where the settlement will be built is approximately 200 acres and it is planned to build 202 plots.

“I can only say that I am very happy to be in Metamorfosi for the second time. You remember our first visit, when there was still a relative suspicion of the government’s intentions. Do you remember that then I had come and asked you a simple question: to what extent is there consent of the residents of Metamorfosi in order to relocate the village, obviously keeping all the property rights in the old Metamorfosi?

I think we’ve made a lot of progress since then. It is a process which by its nature requires time to mature. However, we are now absolutely certain that once we have the consent of the local community, we can move forward and as soon as possible build the new Metamorphosis in a space that has already been determined.

Important work has been done. I would like to give the floor to Thymios to say a couple of words about the work that has been done, but also to specify clearly the timetable of the movements that will be made from now on.

I stress that the issue is no longer so much a question of resources, resources are there to do what we want to do. It is a question of the relevant procedure. Let’s make a new application layout design. To build, essentially, a new small town, to put it in simple words, with its networks, with its infrastructures, as required by modern urban and spatial planning”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his meeting with his residents village.
