Sweeping changes in SYRIZA are expected to be announced by the party’s president, Stefanos Kasselakis, during his presentation at the meeting of the party’s Statutory Committee.

According to information, Mr. Kasselakis is expected to propose changes to the statute, which will include the change of the party’s name.

Mr. Kasselakis will also propose a number of incompatibles, such as:

  • MPs will not participate in party bodies,
  • the upper limit of terms for each member of parliament will be calculated on the three terms, after which the respective member of parliament will change electoral district.

It is noted that today Chania MP Pavlos Polakis rejoined the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group. In a relevant letter sent to the Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas, the head of SYRIZA’s KO, Nikos Pappas, stated that Mr. Polakis is rejoining SYRIZA’s KO following a proposal by the leader of the official opposition and president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis.

For his part, Mr. Polakis, commenting on the president’s decision, insisted on the internal party front, saying characteristically that “I am not a child to be deleted without information and to be reinstated with an information from Nikos Pappas” while he then declared that the quality does not change assessment he has made of the need for a dynamic opposition.

“What I have said is true, we will tell the rest to the Central Committee. You are big guys, that’s clear what I’m saying. We will meet programmatically and value-wise at the Central Committee. I am not a child to be deleted without notice and reinstated with a notice from Nikos Pappas a few minutes before,” stressed the MP of Chania.
